The 2026 Jaecoo J8 SHS Summit is a seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV that undercuts most of its class, landing at $59,990 before on-road costs against rivals like the Kia Sorento PHEV and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Its party trick is a tri-motor Super Hybrid System making a combined 315kW and 580Nm, plus a big 34.4kWh LFP battery that's good for around 134km of electric-only driving on the WLTP cycle, so plenty of families could do the daily school run and commute without burning a drop of fuel. Charge it regularly and it sips about 1.2L/100km on the combined cycle; run the battery flat and you're looking at closer to 5 to 6L/100km, which is still reasonable for a 2.2-tonne all-wheel-drive seven-seater. It's generously equipped too, with dual 12.3-inch screens, a 14-speaker Sony system, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a panoramic roof and adaptive CDC suspension, all backed by Jaecoo's 8-year warranty. Worth knowing it hasn't been ANCAP tested yet, and boot space with all seven seats up is a modest 200 litres, though that jumps to 738 litres with the third row folded.
