FAQ

Everything you asked us about the site, the data, and how it all works.

Is CarSorted free?
Yes. The comparison tool, all 1,140+ cars, every article, every guide, the sell-my-car listings, and the driveaway calculator are free. We charge only for optional pro reports that aggregate the same data into a downloadable PDF for a specific head-to-head. The free site always stays free.
Where does the car data come from?
Manufacturer Australian spec sheets, ANCAP, Redbook for residuals, and industry sources for sales volumes. See Data Sources for the full list and Methodology for how we compute the CarSorted score.
Are you independent? Do dealers pay you?
Independent. No dealer commission, no paid placement, no sponsored reviews. Every car is ranked by the values in the database. A dealer cannot buy a position. We recoup costs via optional pro reports.
How often is data refreshed?
Prices, variants and new-model launches are updated weekly. ANCAP, safety and warranty data updates when manufacturers publish. If a price drops or a car is recalled, we try to reflect it within 48 hours.
A spec is wrong on a car I know well. How do I report it?
Email data@carsorted.ai with the car ID (from the URL, e.g. /directory/1432), the field, and the correct value with a manufacturer-source link. We patch most corrections within 24 hours.
Why does my Compare Now button say I need 2 cars?
You need at least two cars in the compare dock to run a head-to-head. Click "+ Compare" on any directory tile, or use the "Add a Car" search in the hero, to add one. Max 4 cars in a single comparison.
Why is a car showing as Discontinued when it's on sale?
The availability flag looks at the newest model year for each make+model. If you see something mis-flagged, email us the car ID — we re-derive the flag on a model-wide basis, so adding a newer year to the model fixes every variant.
Do you cover used cars?
Private used listings run on the Cars for Sale side of the site (free to list, no commissions). The main comparison DB is focused on new 2024-2026 models.
What state are driveaway prices calculated for?
Victoria by default. Stamp duty rules vary by state, so every driveaway estimate on the site is a VIC calculation today. A state selector is on the roadmap.
How do I calculate true cost of ownership?
Open any two-car comparison and scroll to the True Cost of Ownership chart. It includes fuel/electricity, insurance, servicing, tyres and registration, projected over 1, 3 or 5 years. Our methodology is public.
What's the CarSorted Score?
A 0-100 score combining seven axes: safety, reliability, technology, fuel economy, value for money, performance, and practicality. Each axis is computed from the underlying DB fields, not editorial opinion. Full breakdown on the Methodology page.
Can I list my dealership or integrate a data feed?
Yes, for legitimate Australian dealers. Email partners@carsorted.ai with your dealership name, location and stock size. We do not take lead-generation fees.
