Key Takeaways
- Electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door confirmed for Australia
- GT63: 860kW and 2000Nm, GT55: 600kW and 1800Nm
- Three axial-flux motors, claimed 2.1s 0 to 100km/h (GT63)
- 106kWh battery, up to 700km WLTP range
- 600kW DC charging, over 460km added in about 11 minutes
- Pricing and timing for Australia still to be confirmed

Mercedes-AMG has revealed its first bespoke electric performance car, an all-new GT 4-Door Coupe, and Mercedes-Benz Australia has confirmed it for the local market. This is not a regular EQ model with an AMG badge stuck on. It is a ground-up AMG flagship, and the numbers are eye-watering: up to 860kW, a claimed 2.1-second 0 to 100km/h, and DC fast charging quick enough to make a coffee stop genuinely useful. Local pricing and timing have not been locked in yet.
Two Versions, Both Enormous
The range opens with the GT55, which still produces a colossal 600kW and 1800Nm. Above it sits the GT63, with 860kW and 2000Nm drawn from three axial-flux motors, a lighter and more compact motor design than the usual radial-flux units. That is enough for a claimed 0 to 100km/h time of just 2.1 seconds, putting the GT63 among the quickest-accelerating four-doors on the planet.
| Spec | GT55 | GT63 |
|---|---|---|
| Power | 600 kW | 860 kW |
| Torque | 1800 Nm | 2000 Nm |
| Motors | 3 axial-flux | 3 axial-flux |
| 0-100 km/h | n/a | 2.1 sec |
| Battery | 106 kWh | 106 kWh |
| Range (WLTP) | 597-700 km | 596-696 km |
| Max DC charge | 600 kW | 600 kW |
Charging and Range
Both variants share a 106kWh battery and support DC fast charging at up to 600kW, which Mercedes says can add more than 460km of range in around 11 minutes on a capable charger. WLTP range lands between 596 and 700km depending on the variant and specification, so this is a performance EV you could realistically tour in. Charging infrastructure is the catch, since very few public chargers in Australia can deliver anywhere near 600kW today. Our EV charging guide explains what speeds you can actually get here.
Australian Plans
Mercedes-Benz Australia has confirmed the electric GT will be sold locally, but pricing, arrival timing and equipment are yet to be detailed. Production of both variants is due to begin in the middle of 2026, so a local arrival is realistically some way off after that. Expect a price well into supercar territory given the GT's positioning and output.
Safety
As a newly revealed low-volume performance model, the electric AMG GT has not been rated by ANCAP, and given its niche status it may never be formally tested locally. It will arrive with the full suite of Mercedes driver-assistance and active safety systems.
How It Compares
The obvious rival is the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, the current benchmark for electric four-door performance. The AMG counters with more peak power and that staggering 600kW charging capability. It also goes after the fading petrol super-saloon set. For where mainstream EVs sit in Australia, our best electric cars guide covers the more attainable end, and the Kia EV6 shows how 800-volt charging works at a far lower price.
Our Take
AMG building a proper bespoke EV rather than dressing up an existing electric model is a big deal, and the headline figures back it up. The 860kW GT63 is monstrous, but the more interesting number might be 600kW charging, which points to where premium EVs are heading. The reality is most of us will only ever read about it, but as a halo it sets a benchmark, and it is good to see it confirmed for Australia. Pricing will be the final piece of the puzzle.
