The Jeep Commander Sport was the entry grade of Jeep's 7-seat, body-on-frame Commander SUV sold in Australia from 2006 to 2010, paired here with the range's base 4.7-litre petrol V8 (170kW/410Nm) and a 5-speed automatic driving a Quadra-Trac II full-time 4WD system. Jeep Australia's own technical sheet lists a 2235kg kerb weight, 2948kg GVM and a 3500kg braked towing capacity, with a genuinely tight third row (734mm legroom) behind cloth-trimmed front seats. Standard safety equipment included ABS, stability control, traction control and brake assist, plus curtain airbags -- but items like a reversing camera, heated seats, auto headlights and rain-sensing wipers were reserved for the higher Limited grade or were dealer-fit options on Sport.
Configure the SportThe Jeep Commander Limited paired with the 3.0-litre CRD V6 turbo-diesel was, per an Australian CarsGuide road test at launch, expected to account for up to 80 percent of local Commander sales -- the volume engine in the 2006-2010 AU range. It made 160kW and a substantial 510Nm through a 5-speed automatic and a full-time Quadra-Drive II 4WD system with locking front and rear differentials, with Jeep's own sheet listing a 2242kg kerb weight against the same 2948kg GVM and 3500kg braked towing capacity shared across the range. The Limited grade added leather trim, heated front seats, auto headlights, an auto-dimming mirror, rain-sensing wipers and standard front/rear parking sensors over the base Sport.
Configure the Limited 3.0 CRDThe range-topping Jeep Commander Limited with the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 was, per Jeep's own AU technical sheet, the most powerful engine offered in the 2006-2010 Australian Commander line-up: 240kW and 500Nm through a 5-speed automatic and the same full-time Quadra-Drive II 4WD with locking differentials fitted to the diesel Limited. Jeep's Multi-Displacement System shuts down four of the eight cylinders under light, steady-speed loads to improve fuel economy by up to 12 percent. Kerb weight is listed at 2318kg, the heaviest of the three Commander engine options, with the same 3500kg braked towing capacity and 7-seat layout as the rest of the range, plus the Limited grade's standard leather trim, heated seats and auto-dimming mirror.
