Price Breakdown
The Sealion 7 Premium undercuts the Zeekr 7X RWD by $2,910 ($54,990 vs $57,900), a modest gap for two cars pitched at the same premium-EV buyer who'd otherwise be looking at a Tesla Model Y. Both deliver a lot of electric SUV for the money.
Running costs are near-identical, both will cost roughly $700–$800 a year to charge at home over 15,000km, a fraction of a petrol equivalent. The difference is the battery chemistry: the Sealion's LFP Blade pack can be charged to 100% every day without long-term degradation worries, which is a genuine real-world convenience. The Zeekr uses a higher-density pack that trades a little of that flexibility for faster charging.
Warranty edges to BYD at 6 years/150,000km versus Zeekr's 5-year/unlimited-kilometre cover, with both backing their batteries separately for longer. Zeekr's unlimited-km term suits very high-distance drivers.
Safety Rundown
Both are 5-star ANCAP, the Sealion 7 dated 2024 and the Zeekr 7X carrying a fresh 2026 rating, the newest in this comparison. Both come loaded with the full active-safety suite: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise and a 360-degree camera.
The Zeekr's 2026 rating means it was assessed against the very latest protocols, a small but real point in its favour for safety-focused buyers. Both are heavy, well-built EVs whose structural battery packs add rigidity to the passenger cell. There's nothing to separate them on safety in everyday terms.
Feature Showdown
Both cabins feel genuinely premium and challenge anything from the established brands at the price. Expect large central touchscreens, crisp digital displays, synthetic leather, panoramic roofs and the quiet, refined feel that comes from electric drive. The Zeekr leans slightly more overtly luxurious in its materials and finish, reflecting its positioning as the more premium badge; the BYD is plush and well-built with its now-familiar rotating screen.
Both are mid-size five-seat SUVs, the Sealion 7 a touch longer at 4,830mm versus the Zeekr's 4,787mm, with usable rear-seat room and big boots aided by their dedicated EV platforms and flat floors. The Zeekr sits a little higher at 170mm of ground clearance versus the Sealion's road-focused 140mm. Both also tow, the Zeekr rated to 2,000kg against the Sealion's 750kg, a meaningful edge if you have a trailer or small van.
Drivetrain
Both are rear-wheel-drive single-motor EVs, the layout the best electric cars use for a balanced, planted feel. The Zeekr is the more powerful, with 310kW and 440Nm against the Sealion's 230kW and 380Nm, and it's the quicker of the two at 6.0 seconds to 100km/h versus 6.7. Both are more than brisk enough for daily driving; the Zeekr just has more in reserve.
Range is a dead heat at around 480km WLTP each, despite the Sealion carrying the bigger battery (82.6kWh vs 75kWh), the Zeekr's higher-density pack and efficiency claw it back. But charging is where the Zeekr lands its biggest blow: its 450kW DC peak is three times the Sealion's 150kW. On an ultra-rapid charger the Zeekr can add range dramatically faster, turning a road-trip top-up into a coffee stop. Day to day on a home wall box that gap disappears, but for frequent long-distance drivers it's a real advantage.
CarSorted Data Insight
In our database, the Zeekr 7X's 450kW DC charging peak is among the fastest of any EV on sale in Australia at any price, a figure usually reserved for six-figure performance cars. The Sealion 7's 82.6kWh LFP Blade battery, meanwhile, is one of the largest packs you can buy under $55,000, and its charge-to-100%-daily flexibility is a genuine ownership advantage.
The Verdict
Buy the BYD Sealion 7 if: you want the lower price, the bigger battery you can charge to full every day, a longer warranty and proven Blade-battery peace of mind.
Buy the Zeekr 7X if: you value performance, the most premium cabin, higher towing and the fastest charging in the class for stress-free road trips.

The Verdict
A genuinely close fight between two of the best Chinese EVs on sale. The BYD Sealion 7 Premium is $2,910 cheaper, packs a bigger 82.6kWh Blade (LFP) battery you can charge to 100% daily, and carries a longer 6-year warranty. The Zeekr 7X RWD hits back with more power (310kW vs 230kW), a quicker 0–100, and a standout 450kW DC charging peak that's three times the Sealion's, so it adds range far faster on a road trip. Range is line-ball at ~480km each. Buy the Sealion 7 for value, battery size and warranty; buy the Zeekr 7X for performance and class-leading charging speed.
