Geely EX5 Review (2026): One of Australia's Cheapest Electric SUVs
Written by Uzzi · 23 May 2026
Geely is the quiet giant of the car world, it already owns Volvo, Polestar and Lotus, and now it sells under its own badge here too. Its first mainstream play is the Geely EX5, an electric SUV that has quickly become one of the brand's best sellers by doing one thing very well: undercutting almost every other electric SUV on price.

How much is it?
| Variant | Range | RRP |
|---|---|---|
| EX5 Complete | 430km | $41,990 |
| EX5 Inspire | 410km | $45,990 |
At $41,990 the Complete sits among the cheapest electric SUVs in Australia, rivalling the Chery E5 and undercutting most mainstream rivals comfortably.
Range, performance and charging
Both grades use a 60.2kWh battery for up to 430km WLTP, front-wheel drive, with 160kW and a relaxed 6.9-second 0-100km/h. It is not quick, but it is more than brisk enough for daily driving, and the range is genuinely usable for commuting plus the occasional weekend trip. Geely even drew attention for an efficiency run, though those numbers used a bigger battery not offered locally, so treat the headline economy claims with the usual caution.
Inside
The cabin punches above the price with a big infotainment screen, heated front seats, wireless mirroring and a clean modern design. The one practical caveat is the 302-litre boot, which is small for an SUV, so if you regularly carry a lot of gear, measure up first.
Safety and ownership
At the time of writing the EX5's ANCAP rating was still pending in our data, so confirm the current rating before you buy. Geely backs the EX5 with a long ownership package, check the latest warranty and servicing terms with the dealer. Like all newer Chinese EVs, resale is still establishing itself, which is the main trade-off against the low purchase price.
The verdict
The Geely EX5 is one of the smartest budget entries into electric motoring in Australia. It is cheap, well equipped, easy to live with and has enough range for most people, with the backing of one of the world's biggest car groups. The small boot is the main thing to check. If your priority is an affordable, fuss-free electric SUV, it belongs on your shortlist, see how it stacks up in our cheapest electric cars guide and the wider best Chinese cars roundup.
