The 2026 BMW i3 50 xDrive is a premium all-wheel-drive electric sedan that appeals to buyers seeking German engineering and technology without sacrificing practicality, offering genuine 460km of real-world EV range and a spacious 260-litre boot. Its standout strength is the combination of responsive 250kW performance with comprehensive safety credentials including 5-star ANCAP protection and a reassuring 5-year warranty. The main consideration is that at 1825kg and with only 750kg towing capacity, it's better suited to urban and highway commuting than towing caravans or trailers, though annual running costs of approximately $1700 make it economical to operate once purchased.

Honda Australia reopens Civic Type R order books today at midday with just 98 cars for the entire country at $85,000 driveaway, the same figure as the February batch but without the carbon-fibre rear wing that ran as a $5,300 option and then a standard fitment on earlier allocations. A $5,000 refundable deposit locks a build slot, first customer deliveries in December 2026. Mechanicals unchanged: 235kW/420Nm 2.0L VTEC turbo, six-speed manual with rev-matching, helical LSD, front-wheel drive. Honda has been running roughly 80 Type R deliveries a month and the August 2025 batch cleared inside an hour, so 98 cars is a rounding error against national demand. Cross-shop against the Toyota GR Yaris GTS Aero at ~$72k driveaway, Hyundai i30 N Premium at ~$58k, VW Golf R at ~$77k and Subaru WRX tS at ~$63k. ANCAP not yet rated on the FL5 body.

BMW pulled the covers off the M Concept Neue Klasse before Le Mans, and it is the clearest look yet at the electric M3, possibly badged i3M. Quad-motor BMW M eDrive, 800V architecture, a battery over 100kWh, and reports of 1,000kW+ combined. A petrol mild-hybrid M3 continues alongside it, but no longer as the flagship. What the shift means for Australian buyers.

Electric hatch replaces the i30. 42kWh LFP or 61kWh NMC, up to 500km WLTP, V2L standard, five-star ANCAP target. Expected from ~$40,000 plus on-roads.
