The 2017 BMW i8 is a discontinued plug-in hybrid sports coupe, specified from BMW Group Australia's own 'BMW i Specification Guide' (publication 1 November 2017). It combines a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine (170kW/320Nm) with a 96kW/250Nm hybrid electric motor for a combined 266kW/570Nm, driving through a 6-speed automatic at the rear and a 2-speed automatic at the front for all-wheel drive. BMW quotes 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds and 2.1L/100km combined on the ADR 81/02 cycle, with a 7.1kWh (5.1kWh usable) high-voltage battery carrying an 8-year/100,000km certificate. Standard equipment includes a camera-based Driving Assistant with light city braking, Head-Up Display, front and rear Park Distance Control, and a harman/kardon 11-speaker sound system. The i8 has since been discontinued in Australia; this listing is retained for reference against BMW's archived specification guide, which does not publish dimensions, kerb weight or boot volume.
