The Forthing Taikon 5 Range Extender Hybrid is the EREV version of Forthing's mid-size SUV, and at $36,990 drive-away the Luxury is the cheapest model in the range. It drives like an EV at all times: a 120kW/240Nm electric motor turns the wheels, while a 1.5-litre petrol engine (75kW) works only as a generator on 91-octane unleaded to top up the 31kWh LFP battery, which gives 170km of electric range and 937km combined. It DC fast charges at 40kW (30 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes) and offers 3.5kW vehicle-to-load. At 4,600mm long on a 2,715mm wheelbase it is sized against the Toyota RAV4.
