The V 250 BlueTEC AVANTGARDE was Mercedes-Benz's launch specification for the W447 V-Class in Australia, replacing the Viano from 2015. A 2.1-litre 4-cylinder twin-turbo diesel makes 140kW/440Nm through a 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed automatic, rear-wheel drive, rated at 6.3L/100km combined (ADR 81/02). Standard equipment ran deep for a van-based people mover: COMAND Online navigation with a 21.3cm colour display, a 15-speaker Burmester sound system, LED Intelligent Light System, DISTRONIC PLUS adaptive cruise, Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Active Parking Assist all standard, plus Lugano leather and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The V220d was the entry diesel in Mercedes-Benz's facelifted (VS20) V-Class range as at July 2021: a 2.1-litre 4-cylinder diesel making 120kW, paired with the 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic standard across the range. It rides on 17-inch light-alloy wheels with a 7-inch MBUX touchscreen (versus the larger 10.25-inch screen standard on V250d), and comes with Black Lugano leather trim standard. LED headlamps, the panoramic sunroof and the 360-degree camera are all optional rather than standard on this grade.

The V250d was the higher-output diesel in Mercedes-Benz's facelifted (VS20) V-Class range as at July 2021: the same 2.1-litre 4-cylinder unit tuned to 140kW, on 18-inch 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels. It steps up standard equipment over the V220d with a 10.25-inch MBUX touchscreen, adaptive LED headlamps with cornering lights, ambient cockpit lighting and the 360-degree camera parking package all standard, plus Black Lugano leather trim with twin-stripe detailing.

The V 250 d MWB was the entry point to Mercedes-Benz's V-Class people mover in Australia for 2022 and 2023, and it is a big, rear-drive, seven-seat van in a suit. The 1,950 cc four-cylinder diesel makes 140 kW and 440 Nm through a nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic, and Mercedes-Benz Australia quoted 7.4 L/100km and 192 g/km combined under ADR 81/02. Standard kit ran to 18-inch five-twin-spoke alloys on 245/45 R18 tyres, anodised roof rails, dual electric sliding doors, a separately opening rear window and MBUX with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, voice control and navigation. Two individual second-row seats and a three-place bench in the third row make seven; the longer body could take a second bench for eight. The brochure lists a 3,100 kg gross vehicle mass and 1,550 kg on each axle but publishes no kerb or tare weight at all, so we show no data rather than a guess, and it publishes no towing figures for this grade either. Ownership terms were the strong part: five years or 250,000 km of warranty, five years of Vans Road Care while the warranty runs, 25,000 km or twelve-month service intervals and capped-price ServiceCare.

The V 300 d MWB, badged V 300 d AMG AVANTGARDE in Mercedes-Benz Australia's own brochure copy, was the sharp end of the V-Class range in 2022 and 2023. It uses the same 1,950 cc four-cylinder diesel as the V 250 d but turned up to 174 kW and 500 Nm, still rear-drive through the nine-speed 9G-TRONIC, and the brochure quotes identical ADR 81/02 economy of 7.4 L/100km and 192 g/km. What separates it is the AMG treatment: a diamond-look radiator grille, sports front apron, side skirt trims, AMG spoiler lip, black trim on the grille, bumper, mirror casings, belt line and roof rails, AMG carbon-fibre-look interior trim and 19-inch AMG alloys on 245/45 R19 tyres. The LED Intelligent Light System with adaptive swivelling headlamps, Highbeam Assist and active cornering light is standard here where it is an option on the V 250 d, and nappa leather and the massaging, climatised reclining luxury rear seat are options only on this grade. Gross vehicle mass is 3,100 kg with 1,550 kg per axle; no kerb or tare weight is published. Warranty is five years or 250,000 km with 25,000 km service intervals.

The Marco Polo HORIZON 250d is Mercedes-Benz's V-Class with a bed in it: a factory camper conversion sold in Australia under its own nameplate but certified as a V-Class, on the same 447.813 medium-wheelbase body. A mechanical pop-up roof with a roof bed takes overall height from 1,970 mm to 2,828 mm when raised, and the three-seat bench folds into a comfort berth with a bed extension and two drawers, so it sleeps up to five. The 1,950 cc four-cylinder diesel makes 140 kW at 4,200 rpm and 440 Nm through the nine-speed 9G-TRONIC PLUS to the rear wheels, with 7.2 L/100km and 188 g/km claimed under ADR 81/02. Gross vehicle mass is 3,100 kg and Mercedes-Benz publishes an unladen weight of 2,497 kg measured with a full tank and no driver, which is not the same basis as a kerb weight, so we file it as tare and leave kerb blank. It tows 2,500 kg braked against a 5,600 kg gross combination mass and carries 50 kg on the roof. Standard equipment is generous: 360-degree camera, Active Park Assist, DISTRONIC, Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, LED Intelligent Light System with Highbeam Assist Plus, MBUX with a 10.25-inch screen, satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, black Lugano leather, a side-mounted awning and dual electric sliding doors. Five years or 250,000 km of warranty, 25,000 km service intervals.

The V 220 d MWB was the entry point to Mercedes-Benz's W447 V-Class in Australia in 2017, and it was not a stripped-out one. Mercedes-Benz Australia's own specification sheet, effective 10 May 2017, lists Lugano black leather, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, THERMOTRONIC climate control, electric sliding doors on both sides and an electric tailgate, DAB+ digital radio and Garmin MAP Pilot navigation on a 17.8 cm central display, all as standard. Under the bonnet is the 2,143 cc four-cylinder turbo-diesel making 120 kW at 3,800 rpm and 380 Nm from 1,400 rpm, driving the rear wheels through the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic with steering-wheel paddles. It is certified at 6.3 L/100km combined and 166 g/km of CO2 on the ADR 81/02 cycle, tows 2,500 kg braked, and has a permissible gross vehicle mass of 3,100 kg. Seating is the seven-seat 2+2+3 layout, with six-seat and eight-seat configurations on the options list. Safety equipment is the same six airbags, ESP, ATTENTION ASSIST, PRE-SAFE and Driving Assistance package (collision-prevention warning, Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist) that the range carried, with Active Parking Assist and PARKTRONIC sensors front and rear. The things Mercedes-Benz did not put in this document are worth knowing too: it publishes no kerb weight, no dimensions, no price and no warranty terms, so those fields sit empty here rather than being guessed at.

The V 250 d AVANTGARDE MWB was the flagship of Mercedes-Benz Australia's W447 V-Class range in 2017. It uses the same 2,143 cc four-cylinder turbo-diesel as the V 220 d but tuned to 140 kW at 3,800 rpm and 440 Nm from 1,400 rpm, running through the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic to the rear wheels and topping out at an electronically limited 206 km/h. Mercedes-Benz Australia's specification sheet of 10 May 2017 certifies it at 6.3 L/100km combined and 166 g/km on the ADR 81/02 cycle, the same as the V 220 d. The AVANTGARDE specification is where the money went: a 15-speaker, 640-watt Burmester surround system, COMAND Online with 3D navigation and an in-car WLAN hotspot on a 21.3 cm screen, DISTRONIC PLUS adaptive cruise, the LED Intelligent Light System with adaptive high beam and cornering lights, a 360-degree surround-view camera, tyre pressure monitoring, ambient lighting in three colours, anodised roof rails, illuminated door sills and 18-inch twin-spoke alloys, all on top of everything the V 220 d already had. Seven seats in a 2+2+3 layout are standard, with six- and eight-seat layouts optional. It tows 2,500 kg braked with a 3,100 kg gross vehicle mass. One quirk worth knowing: the stainless steel sports pedals that are standard on the cheaper V 220 d are an option here, and only inside the AVANTGARDE Interior Design package or the AMG Line.

The Marco Polo ACTIVITY was the affordable half of Mercedes-Benz's camper range in Australia: a V-Class with a mechanical pop-up roof and a bed, rather than the full Marco Polo with its kitchen. Mercedes-Benz Australia's August 2017 brochure describes a five-seat layout as standard, with swivelling driver and front passenger seats and a three-seat bench in the second row that folds into a comfort berth with a bed extension and two drawers, plus a second berth in the pop-up roof. A seven-seat layout was optional. Power comes from the 2,143 cc OM 651 four-cylinder diesel making 120 kW at 3,800 rpm and 380 Nm, driving the rear wheels through the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic, and the brochure certifies 6.3 L/100km combined and 166 g/km of CO2 on the ADR 81/02 cycle. It is plated at a 3,100 kg gross vehicle mass with a printed unladen weight of 2,380 kg measured with a full tank of fuel and no driver aboard. Braked towing capacity is 2,500 kg. The roof is rated to 50 kg and it turns in 11.8 metres. Standard equipment runs to TEMPMATIC front and rear air conditioning, an auxiliary hot-air heater, a Becker MAP Pilot navigation system on a 5.8-inch screen, Active Park Assist with front and rear sensors, a reversing camera, ATTENTION ASSIST and Crosswind Assist. The LED Intelligent Light System, halogen fog lamps, dual electric sliding doors, a side-mounted awning and Lugano leather were all options, and the tailgate is manual.
