The 2025 MG7 Essence is a sharply styled fastback sedan that pitches premium-feeling features at a sharp price for Australian buyers. It runs a 2.0-litre turbo petrol making 170kW and 380Nm through an 9-speed automatic and front-wheel drive, and comes loaded as a single well-equipped grade: a 14-speaker Bose system, head-up display, panoramic sunroof, heated electric front seats, a 360-degree camera and a wide safety suite including AEB, blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise. Its standout is value, with sports-sedan looks and a long 10-year/250,000km conditional warranty. The main thing to weigh is that MG had not published an ANCAP rating at launch, and fuel use of 8.0L/100km on 95 RON is average rather than frugal for the class.

2026 Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport Priced for Australia: New Sporty Flagship at $50,990, Range Opens at $37,440

Toyota Australia confirms MY26 Corolla Cross pricing ahead of a 24 July showroom date. Range opens at $37,440 before on-roads for the GX 2WD Hybrid, up about $960. The headline is a new GR Sport AWD flagship at $50,990 (or $52,340 in Two-Tone), landing at exactly the same money as the Atmos AWD it sits next to. Same 146kW hybrid across the range with a 2.0L Atkinson four and e-CVT, but the GR Sport swaps some of Atmos's comfort kit for a unique suspension and steering tune, model-specific 19-inch alloys and a sportier interior. Existing 5-star ANCAP rating carries over. GX and Atmos land first on 24 July, GXL and GR Sport follow later in the year.

Land Rover Recalls 20,985 Defender, Discovery and Range Rover SUVs in Australia Over Driver Airbag Clock Spring Fault

Jaguar Land Rover Australia has filed recall REC-006645 covering 20,985 Defender, Discovery and Range Rover models built 2019 to 2026, the local slice of a 250,857-unit global campaign. The driver airbag clock spring connector can suffer fretting corrosion over time, gradually lifting resistance in the airbag circuit to the point the airbag may fail to deploy in a crash. JLR says the SRS warning lamp illuminates roughly 300 to 400 miles (480 to 640 kilometres) before the fault reaches non-deployment territory, so the car is drivable and no stop-drive has been ordered. The fix is a short retailer visit: a technician exposes the clock spring connector and applies a protective lubricant gel to seal the pins, no parts replaced, free of charge. Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar and Discovery Sport are not on this campaign. JLR is posting owners individually and Land Rover Australia is taking calls on 1800 625 642. VIN lookup lives at landrover.com.au/ownership/vin-recall.html and the recall record is REC-006645 on vehiclerecalls.gov.au.

2026 XPeng G6 Final Pricing: Four Variants From $51,800, $3,000 Cheaper Than The Outgoing Car

XPeng ANZ opens the updated G6 order book on the factory-direct switchover. Standard Range $51,800, Long Range $56,800, AWD Performance $63,800 and AWD Performance Black Edition $66,800, all before on-road costs. That is a $3,000 cut across the equivalent outgoing variants at the same moment XPeng adds 800V silicon carbide architecture, 5C ultra-fast charging with a 451kW DC peak, LFP chemistry and a longer factory-backed warranty. WLTP range up to 525km on the Long Range, 480km on the Standard Range and 510km on both AWD variants. Peak DC is quoted at 451kW for a 10 to 80 per cent stop in about 12 minutes, adding up to 427km of range in a 15-minute pause. AWD Performance runs a 358kW/660Nm dual-motor stack for a claimed 4.13-second 0 to 100km/h, and the Black Edition adds gloss black paint, black-finish 20-inch alloys, smoked-black badging and black brake calipers over the standard Performance. Cabin standard kit spans a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, 10.25-inch driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual wireless phone chargers, 18-speaker XOPERA audio, Nappa leather, heated ventilated and massaging front seats, and a Nvidia Orin-X XPILOT stack. Warranty steps up to 7-year unlimited-km for private buyers on cars sold from 1 June 2026, with 8-year 160,000km battery cover. Orders open now, deliveries during July 2026. ANCAP rating is a carry-over 5-star from the pre-update Euro NCAP score, no re-test announced yet.
