The Mazda MX-5 has had another update, and it costs more. Mazda Australia calls it the 2026 MX-5, and it's on order in dealerships now. The changes are mostly about safety, plus a sportier cabin for the GT RS and a new colour that Mazda clearly expects to sell.
What's Changed
The MX-5 range now gets Lane-keep Assist, on top of the safety kit it already had. Autonomous emergency braking now picks up cyclists as well as pedestrians. Mazda's wording is that it was "previously pedestrians only".
The GT RS gets more than the other grades. RECARO bucket seats, trimmed in nappa leather and Alcantara with light grey stitching, are now standard. Alcantara also goes on the instrument panel, centre console, console lid and door trim.
Then there's the paint. Zinc Green Metallic is new for both the Roadster and the RF, and Mazda says it's the first green body colour on a Mazda in Australia for 10 years. The idea comes from zinc chromate primer, an industrial undercoat. The other six colours carry over: Snowflake White Pearl Mica, Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Deep Crystal Blue Mica, Jet Black Mica, Machine Grey Metallic and Aero Grey Metallic.

Mazda's release prints only the new prices, not the old ones. CarExpert and WhichCar report the rise as $1,950 for the other grades and $4,950 for the two GT RS grades. Those are their figures, not Mazda's.
Our Take
Lane-keep assist and cyclist detection are useful additions, but they're the sort of thing buyers already expect, and the base Roadster now lists at $44,590 before on-roads. The GT RS gains more new equipment than the other grades and, by the reported figures, a larger rise. If you've been eyeing one, the RECARO seats are the real change.
Cross-shopping? The Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ are the obvious alternatives if you don't need the roof to come off. For drop-tops, see our best convertibles guide, and the rest of the Mazda range is here.
