The 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY is the entry point to the R172-generation SLK-Class roadster (later renamed SLC-Class in 2016 on the same chassis), using a 1.8-litre turbo-petrol four (135kW/270Nm) through a 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic and rear-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz Australia's July 2011 specification sheet lists 6.9L/100km combined (ADR 81/02) and 161g/km CO2, with a retractable folding metal roof (Vario-roof), solar-reflecting leather upholstery and 17-inch alloy wheels. The SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY was the entry point to Mercedes-Benz Australia's R172 roadster range in 2012, and the version most SLKs sold here were. Its 1,796cc four-cylinder makes 135kW at 5,250rpm and 270Nm from 1,800rpm, driving the rear wheels through the seven-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic for a 7.0-second run to 100km/h and an electronically limited 210km/h. The point of the BlueEFFICIENCY badge is the 6.9 L/100km combined figure and 161g/km of CO2, which for a rear-drive folding-hardtop roadster of the period is genuinely frugal. It carries a 60-litre tank, a 0.30 drag coefficient, 17-inch wheels on 225/45 front and 245/40 rear tyres, ventilated front discs with solid rears, a 10.52-metre turning circle and a 1,785kg permissible gross vehicle mass. Boot space runs from 225 litres with the roof stowed to 335 litres with it up, which is the compromise every retractable-hardtop car of this era makes. Australian equipment detail for the 2012 model year has not survived: Mercedes-Benz Australia's only published document for this window is a technical-data table with no equipment list, so this page shows engineering figures and says nothing about what was fitted. ANCAP has no rating on record for this car.

The SLK 350 BlueEFFICIENCY was the quick one in Mercedes-Benz Australia's 2012 roadster range before the AMG arrived, and it is the grade that turns the R172 from a stylish cruiser into something genuinely fast. Its 3,498cc V6 makes 225kW at 6,500rpm and 370Nm, and with the seven-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic and rear drive it covers 0 to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds before the limiter arrives at 210km/h. Even so it drinks a claimed 8.3 L/100km combined and emits 194g/km, helped by direct injection and stop-start. It runs a 70-litre tank, a 0.33 drag coefficient, the same 10.52-metre turning circle as the four-cylinder car and a 1,855kg permissible gross vehicle mass. Boot space is 225 litres with the folding hardtop stowed and 335 litres with it raised. Two things this page does not carry are worth saying out loud: Mercedes-Benz Australia published no equipment list for the 2012 model year, so standard features are shown as no data rather than assumed; and the 2012 page's tyre sizes for this grade are internally inconsistent with the brand's own next-year page, so they have been left off rather than published. ANCAP has no rating on record for this car.

By 2013 the R172 SLK range in Australia had grown to four badges, and the SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY remained the entry car and the volume seller. Nothing mechanical changed for the model year: the 1,796cc turbocharged four still makes 135kW at 5,250rpm and 270Nm from 1,800rpm, still drives the rear wheels through the seven-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic, and still claims 7.0 seconds to 100km/h, 210km/h limited, 6.9 L/100km and 161g/km. The supporting numbers are equally unchanged: a 60-litre tank, 0.30 drag coefficient, 225/45 R17 front and 245/40 R17 rear tyres, ventilated front and solid rear discs, a 10.52-metre turning circle, 1,785kg permissible gross vehicle mass and 225 to 335 litres of boot depending on where the folding hardtop is. What Mercedes-Benz Australia did not publish for 2013 is any equipment list, so the feature columns on this page are blank rather than guessed, and the kerb weight it did publish is the European driver-inclusive measure that we do not store. ANCAP has no rating on record for this car.

In 2013 the SLK 350 BlueEFFICIENCY sat one rung below the new SLK 55 AMG in Mercedes-Benz Australia's roadster range, and it remains the sweet spot of the R172 line for most buyers: a 3,498cc V6 making 225kW at 6,500rpm and 370Nm, seven-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic, rear drive, 5.6 seconds to 100km/h and an electronically limited 210km/h. It claims 8.3 L/100km combined and 194g/km, runs a 70-litre tank and a 0.33 drag coefficient, and turns in 10.52 metres. For 2013 Mercedes-Benz Australia listed it on 18-inch wheels with 225/40 front and 245/35 rear tyres, ventilated front discs and solid rears, and a 1,855kg permissible gross vehicle mass. Boot space is 225 litres with the folding hardtop stowed and 335 litres with it raised. No Australian equipment document survives for the 2013 model year, so every feature field here is shown as no data rather than assumed, and the kerb weight Mercedes published for this car is the European driver-inclusive figure we do not store. The SLK 55 AMG arrived in Australia during 2012 and is the R172 at its most excessive: a naturally aspirated 5,461cc V8 making 310kW at 6,800rpm and 540Nm at 4,500rpm, driving the rear wheels through AMG's SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed sports transmission. It runs to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds and is limited to 250km/h rather than the 210km/h of the lesser grades. What makes it unusual for its era is the economy: a cylinder-deactivation system lets a 5.5-litre V8 roadster claim 8.5 L/100km combined and 197g/km, barely worse than the V6 beneath it. The chassis is uprated to match, with AMG's sliding frame-type callipers on composite front discs, 235/40 R18 front and 255/35 R18 rear tyres, a 0.34 drag coefficient and a 1,910kg permissible gross vehicle mass. The turning circle is 10.53 metres and the boot holds 225 litres with the roof stowed or 335 with it up. Two gaps are worth naming: no Australian equipment document survives for the 2013 model year, so features are shown as no data, and Mercedes-Benz Australia's own page has a corrupted rear-brake cell for this grade, so that field has been left blank rather than filled with the wrong text. ANCAP has no rating on record.
