The Suzuki Jimny XL is the longer five-door version of Suzuki's baby off-roader, stretching the wheelbase to 2,590mm to free up proper rear-seat space and a far more usable 211-litre boot. This is the 5-speed manual. It keeps the same 1.5-litre petrol four making 75kW and 130Nm, driving through a proper part-time 4WD system with low range. It is a genuine ladder-frame four-wheel drive with hill descent control and brake LSD traction control, so the extra doors do not blunt its go-anywhere reputation, and it can tow a braked 1,300kg. Buyers should note it seats four, not five, and the XL currently carries no ANCAP rating. Figures here are from Suzuki Australia, not a road test. Manual fuel use is a reasonable 6.4L/100km.
