The 2026 GWM Tank 500 Lux is a seven-seat hybrid SUV that appeals to families wanting genuine off-road capability without premium pricing, delivering a 2.0-litre petrol-electric hybrid with a combined 255kW and 648Nm of torque. Its standout strength is the combination of real 4WD credentials with a claimed 8.5L/100km efficiency and a comprehensive seven-year warranty that reflects GWM's confidence in reliability. One consideration: the 98-litre boot shrinks considerably when you're using all seven seats, so it's worth assessing whether your typical load requirements suit this configuration.

The 2026 GWM Tank 500 Ultra is a 7-seat hybrid SUV with 4WD and a 9-speed auto, making 255kW as the combined system output. It's priced from $65,990 RRP, which is before on-road costs, so expect to pay more once rego and stamp duty are added. Claimed fuel use is 8.5L/100km combined, and it can tow 3,000kg braked. The catch is boot space with all seats up, which is just 98 litres, though folding the rear seats opens that up to 1,459 litres. It suits families who need seven seats and want to tow a decent-sized van or boat.

The GWM Tank 500 3.0L Turbo-Diesel is the diesel version of GWM's body-on-frame large SUV, sold in Lux and Vanta grades from $65,990 drive-away for private buyers in Victoria (the Vanta is listed separately at $71,990). GWM Australia's release put it at dealers from mid-September 2026, and its model page now takes orders. The new 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel makes 170kW and 620Nm through a nine-speed automatic and four-wheel drive with front, centre and rear differential locks, and needs no AdBlue. GWM quotes 0-100km/h in 10.6 seconds, 7.1L/100km combined and 187g/km CO2 (ADR 81/02, matched by the Green Vehicle Guide), and a 3,500kg braked towing capacity, up from 3,000kg for the Tank 500 hybrid. Both diesel grades list a 14.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, an 8-speaker audio system, heated front seats, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and front and rear parking sensors. Warranty is seven years with unlimited kilometres and roadside assistance runs seven years. GWM has not published masses, dimensions or wheel sizes for the diesel yet, its seat count is unresolved between GWM and the Green Vehicle Guide, and ANCAP publishes no rating for this powertrain, so those show as no data.

At $71,990 drive-away, which is the manufacturer's advertised drive-away price in Victoria, the 2026 GWM Tank 500 Vanta 3.0L Turbo-Diesel gets you an 8-seat 4WD SUV with a diesel engine and a 9-speed automatic. Fuel use is 7.1L/100km on the combined cycle, and it carries a 131-litre fuel tank. It's rated to tow 3,500kg braked. We don't have a boot space figure for it yet, so if cargo room matters you'll want to check it in person. It suits families who need eight seats and want to hitch up a big caravan or boat.
