The 2026 GWM Tank 500 Lux is a seven-seat hybrid SUV that appeals to families wanting genuine off-road capability without premium pricing, delivering a 2.0-litre petrol-electric hybrid with a combined 255kW and 648Nm of torque. Its standout strength is the combination of real 4WD credentials with a claimed 8.5L/100km efficiency and a comprehensive seven-year warranty that reflects GWM's confidence in reliability. One consideration: the 98-litre boot shrinks considerably when you're using all seven seats, so it's worth assessing whether your typical load requirements suit this configuration.

The 2026 GWM Tank 500 Ultra is a seven-seat hybrid SUV that appeals to families wanting practical off-road capability without the fuel consumption penalty of a traditional large SUV, delivering a claimed 8.5L/100km combined economy. Its standout strength is the combination of 648Nm torque from its 2.0-litre hybrid engine paired with genuine 4WD credentials, offering the towing capacity (3000kg) and boot space (98L) needed for weekend adventures. One consideration is the relatively modest 175kW power output compared to conventional petrol rivals, though the low running costs (~$3538 annually) and 5-star ANCAP safety rating, backed by a seven-year warranty, offset this for budget-conscious buyers.

The GWM Tank 500 3.0L Turbo-Diesel is the diesel version of GWM's body-on-frame large SUV, sold in Lux and Vanta grades from $65,990 drive-away for private buyers in Victoria (the Vanta is listed separately at $71,990). GWM Australia's release put it at dealers from mid-September 2026, and its model page now takes orders. The new 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel makes 170kW and 620Nm through a nine-speed automatic and four-wheel drive with front, centre and rear differential locks, and needs no AdBlue. GWM quotes 0-100km/h in 10.6 seconds, 7.1L/100km combined and 187g/km CO2 (ADR 81/02, matched by the Green Vehicle Guide), and a 3,500kg braked towing capacity, up from 3,000kg for the Tank 500 hybrid. Both diesel grades list a 14.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, an 8-speaker audio system, heated front seats, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and front and rear parking sensors. Warranty is seven years with unlimited kilometres and roadside assistance runs seven years. GWM has not published masses, dimensions or wheel sizes for the diesel yet, its seat count is unresolved between GWM and the Green Vehicle Guide, and ANCAP publishes no rating for this powertrain, so those show as no data.

The GWM Tank 500 Vanta 3.0L Turbo-Diesel is the upper of the two diesel Tank 500 grades, priced at $71,990 drive-away for private buyers in Victoria ($70,990 for ABN holders) against $65,990 for the Lux Diesel. GWM Australia's release put it at dealers from mid-September 2026. The new 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel makes 170kW and 620Nm through a nine-speed automatic and part-time four-wheel drive, with front, centre and rear differential locks according to GWM's launch release, and needs no AdBlue. GWM quotes 0-100km/h in 10.6 seconds, 3,500kg braked towing and 7.1L/100km combined (ADR 81/02), which the Green Vehicle Guide confirms alongside 187g/km of CO2. The Vanta gets a 131-litre long-range fuel tank, electronic retractable side steps, black roof rails, Nappa leather accented seats, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, heated front seats, an 8-speaker audio system and a 14.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and over-the-air updates. GWM has not yet published masses or dimensions for the diesel, its two pages disagree on wheel size and peak-torque rpm, and its seat count is unresolved, so those show as no data.
