Jaecoo J7 Review (2026): Range Rover Looks, Chinese Price

Jaecoo is one of Chery's many sub-brands, and the Jaecoo J7 is its pitch to buyers who want the look of a premium British SUV without the premium British price. The boxy, upright styling is unapologetically Range Rover Evoque, and it has worked: the J7 racked up thousands of orders almost immediately.

How much is it?

J7 TrackPetrol$37,990
J7 Ridge AWDPetrol$42,990
J7 SHS TrackPlug-in hybrid$43,990

Powertrains

The petrol J7 makes 130kW and is the value entry; an AWD Ridge adds light off-road ability. The clever one is the SHS plug-in hybrid: a turbo-petrol engine plus an electric motor and an 18.3kWh battery, good for electric-only commuting and a very long combined range, Jaecoo quotes well over 1,200km between fills if you charge it. As with every plug-in hybrid, those savings depend on actually plugging in.

Inside

The cabin chases the premium theme with a big central touchscreen, synthetic leather, heated and ventilated front seats on the Summit, and a Sony sound system up top. There is a 431-litre boot and plenty of rear-seat room. Material quality is good for the money, and the design feels more upmarket than the price suggests.

Safety and ownership

Five-star ANCAP and the full suite of driver assists, though, as with its Chery siblings, the lane-keeping and attention monitor can be over-eager. The headline ownership figure is the warranty: eight years, among the longest on the market, with capped-price servicing. That is a strong safety net for a newer brand.

The verdict

The Jaecoo J7 nails the brief: it looks like money, costs like a bargain, and the SHS plug-in hybrid adds genuinely low running costs if you charge it. It is not the sharpest thing to drive and the safety tech needs polish, but for buyers who want presence and efficiency without spending big, it is a compelling left-field pick, backed by an eight-year warranty. See how it fits among the best Chinese cars or the cheapest PHEVs.
