The Citroen C4 Cactus brought quirky, lightweight small-SUV styling to Australia from 2016, headlined by its signature Airbump door protection panels and a lounge-like, comfort-first cabin. Sold here in a single well-equipped Exclusive grade, it paired three small turbo engines: a 1.2 PureTech petrol (82 or 110), the ETG semi-auto or manual, and a frugal 1.6 BlueHDi diesel. It is light on its feet and cheap to run, but the ETG automated manual is jerky and used examples are rare in Australia.

Configure the Exclusive e-HDi 92 S&SThe automatic C4 Cactus was Citroen Australia's odd-looking, Airbump-clad small hatch in its final MY2018 form: one Exclusive grade, the 1.2-litre three-cylinder PureTech 110 turbo petrol with 81kW and 205Nm, and the EAT6 six-speed automatic. Citroen quoted 5.1 L/100km combined and 118 g/km, a 358-litre boot that opens to 1,170 litres, and a 10.9-metre turning circle. It is the softer-riding, easier-driving version of the pair but the weaker one on paper: 10.7 seconds to 100km/h against the manual's 9.3, and only 400kg of braked towing against 825kg. Standard kit runs to 17-inch diamond-cut alloys, a 7-inch touchscreen with eMyWay satellite navigation, DAB+ digital radio, a six-speaker ARKAMYS-amplified stereo, a digital instrument cluster, tyre pressure monitoring and the City Camera Pack's rear sensors and reversing camera.
Configure the Exclusive PureTech 110 S&S EAT6 automaticThe manual C4 Cactus is the quicker and thriftier half of Citroen Australia's MY2018 pair, and by a surprising margin: the same 81kW/205Nm 1.2-litre PureTech 110 turbo triple, but 105kg lighter at 1,020kg, 9.3 seconds to 100km/h against the automatic's 10.7, and 4.7 L/100km combined against 5.1. It also tows twice as much, at 825kg braked. The trade-offs are drum rear brakes instead of discs and no Sport or Snow modes. Everything else is shared: Exclusive grade, 17-inch diamond-cut alloys, Airbumps, a 358-litre boot, a 7-inch touchscreen with eMyWay satellite navigation, DAB+, a six-speaker ARKAMYS-amplified stereo and a digital instrument cluster.
