The 2025 MG QS Excite is the front-drive entry to MG's first proper seven-seat large SUV, and it leads on value. It runs a 2.0-litre turbo petrol with 153kW and 360Nm through an 9-speed automatic, tows a genuine 2,000kg braked, and packs a long features list: tri-zone climate, a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof and a full safety suite with AEB, blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise. It carries a 5-star ANCAP rating and a 10-year/250,000km conditional warranty. The trade-off versus the Essence is cloth seats and the absence of heated and ventilated seats, wireless charging and the Bose audio.

The 2025 MG QS Essence is the all-wheel-drive flagship of MG's seven-seat large SUV range. It uses the same 153kW/360Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 9-speed automatic as the Excite but adds AWD with a six-mode terrain system, adjustable CDC suspension, 21-inch wheels, perforated leather with heated and ventilated front seats, a 12-speaker Bose system, wireless charging and a front parking sensor. It keeps the 2,000kg braked towing, 5-star ANCAP rating and 10-year/250,000km conditional warranty. The main considerations are slightly higher fuel use at 8.8L/100km and a price that pushes past $50,000 drive-away.

Mazda CX-5, BMW X3, MG S6 EV and Cupra Formentor All Score Five Stars With ANCAP

ANCAP hands maximum ratings to four family SUVs in a single sweep under its outgoing 2023-25 protocols. The all-new Mazda CX-5 posts a 93 per cent vulnerable road user score, the highest of any car tested in the entire 2023-25 protocol era. The MG S6 EV tops the batch for adult occupant protection at 92 per cent. The updated Cupra Formentor five-star result covers cars built from December 2025 onwards but excludes both the five-cylinder VZ5 and any four-cylinder ordered with the Extreme Package (the Sabelt bucket seats stop the centre airbag from fitting). BMW X3 (petrol G45) also confirmed at five stars, ratings apply to the current on-sale shape. Everything here sits under the older protocols, the tougher 2026 rules kicked in earlier this month and the BMW iX3 has become the first car to clear them.
