Key Takeaways

  • No price and no Australian specification yet, for either model
  • Luxeed, Chery's luxury electrified brand, is headed for Australia, according to its international chief Shawn Xu
  • The LLounge people mover (Luxeed V9 in China) leads the way: second quarter 2027 per CarExpert, mid-2027 per Drive, WhichCar and Torque Cafe
  • The Stormax SUV follows with no local date. Luxeed quotes the overseas car at 460kW and 775Nm
  • Xu is quoted saying export cars carry no Huawei hardware or software, and Drive reports the Australian specification isn't locked in
  • Chery Australia hasn't published anything on Luxeed that we could find

If you're shopping a big luxury people mover right now, the list is short and mostly Chinese: the Zeekr 009, the XPeng X9, the Denza D9, and the hybrid Lexus LM at the top. Another one is now on the way for 2027. It's the Luxeed LLounge, and on the reported figures it is longer than any of them.

Luxeed is the luxury electrified brand from Chery, and Drive and WhichCar count it as the ninth Chery Group brand set for Australia. The news came from Shawn Xu, whom Drive names as CEO of Luxeed International and Vice President of Chery International, at the brand's global launch in Wuhu, China on 21 October. "In the beginning of next year, we are going to launch in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia as well," he told Drive. "All of the right-hand drive markets, we are going to cover."

Worth being clear about: Xu is an international executive, not a local one. We couldn't find a Chery Australia release or a live Australian Luxeed website on 23 October, so everything Australian below is what Xu said or what an outlet reported, with the name attached.

Xu was frank about volume. "I think we will not expect volume to be too high. It's a luxury brand, but we want to build good branding in Australia," he told Drive. He said existing Chery Group dealers would be welcome to take the brand on, alongside talks with new ones.

The LLounge, and Why the Powertrain Is Still a Question

CarExpert, Drive and WhichCar each report the LLounge as the export version of the Luxeed V9 sold in China, at 5,359mm long and 2,009mm wide, and CarExpert and WhichCar give a 3,250mm wheelbase. WhichCar reports it was engineered for right-hand drive from the start.

In China, Luxeed's own V9 release describes an extended-range setup, where a petrol engine charges the battery rather than driving the wheels, with a 53.4kWh pack, 1,320km of combined range on the Chinese CLTC cycle and 6.8L/100km on WLTC. Don't carry those numbers across yet. Australian outlets describe Luxeed in China as a Chery brand developed with Huawei, and Drive quotes Xu saying "for Luxeed internationally, there is no relation with (Huawei), including the hardware and the software." WhichCar reads that as a reason to doubt the Chinese powertrain arrives unchanged, and Drive says the Australian specification isn't locked in.

What Luxeed has described for its international LLounge is the cabin: two second-row seats that recline to 123 degrees with four-way power leg rests, Nappa leather and massage, 12 acoustic glass panes and a 33-speaker sound system. Underneath sit dual-chamber air suspension, adaptive dampers and rear-wheel steering of up to 7 degrees.

The Stormax: 460kW, Date Unknown

The second Luxeed named for Australia is the Stormax, reported as the Luxeed RX in China. Luxeed's release for the overseas car lists an 800-volt battery-electric system with two motors and all-wheel drive, 460kW and 775Nm, 0-100km/h in under 3.9 seconds and a top speed past 250km/h. CarExpert reports no local arrival date has been set.

If you want that sort of pace today, we list the Zeekr 7X Performance AWD at $72,900 before on-road costs, with 475kW and a 3.8-second claim. Whether the Stormax lands anywhere near that money is anyone's guess until Luxeed prices it.

Where the LLounge Would Sit

On the reported 5,359mm, the LLounge would be 66mm longer than the XPeng X9, the longest people mover we list on sale with a length recorded. A Kia Carnival gives away 204mm to it. We don't list a single range-extender people mover on sale, so if the Chinese powertrain did come here, it would be the first of its kind in our listings.

Here's what the electrified end of the segment costs today, from the prices each maker has published:

Prices are each car's listed price with its basis shown and are not all checked on the same date. The Luxeed LLounge isn't here because it has no Australian price or specification. Where a cell says no data, we hold nothing for that field rather than a zero. Figures come from our car database, which is built from Australian manufacturer documents. A blank field reads “No data” rather than a zero or a dash.

What This Means for Buyers

If you need a big people mover in the next six months, this changes nothing. There's no price, no local powertrain, no warranty and no ANCAP rating, and the timing is a reported quarter, not a month. Put the Zeekr 009, XPeng X9 and BYD M9 side by side in the comparison tool and buy on what's real.

If you're happy to wait until mid-2027 and want a lot of cabin without stepping up to a van, keep an eye on it. A new badge also has no resale history yet, which matters a lot at this price, so run anything you're weighing up through our depreciation calculator before you commit.

Disclaimer: Luxeed's plans for Australia are Shawn Xu's comments to Australian media at the Luxeed global launch in Wuhu, China on 21 October 2026, as reported by Drive and CarExpert on 22 October 2026. Xu is an international executive; we could not find a Chery Australia release or a live Australian Luxeed website on 23 October 2026. The second-quarter 2027 timing is as reported by CarExpert; mid-2027 is as reported by Drive, WhichCar and Torque Cafe. The LLounge's link to the Luxeed V9, the Stormax's link to the Luxeed RX, the LLounge dimensions and the description of Luxeed as developed with Huawei are as reported by Australian outlets. The Stormax outputs, the LLounge cabin and chassis details, and the V9 battery, CLTC range and WLTC fuel figures are Luxeed's own, from its international and China releases of July and October 2026; they are not Australian specifications. Prices, lengths and outputs for other cars are the ones listed on CarSorted at the time of writing, each with its own basis. We hold no ANCAP rating for any Luxeed and none is implied. Confirm price, specification, safety rating and availability with Luxeed or Chery once the brand launches here.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Luxeed coming to Australia?
Shawn Xu, who runs Luxeed's international business, told Australian media at the brand's global launch in China on 21 October 2026 that Australia is on the list. CarExpert reports the launch model is due in the second quarter of 2027, while Drive, WhichCar and Torque Cafe say mid-2027. Chery Australia had not published anything on Luxeed that we could find when this was written.
What is the Luxeed LLounge?
A large luxury people mover, and the launch model for Luxeed in Australia. Australian outlets report it is the export version of the Luxeed V9 sold in China, at 5,359mm long and 2,009mm wide on a 3,250mm wheelbase. Luxeed's own international release describes two reclining second-row seats with power leg rests, massage and a 33-speaker sound system on the overseas car.
How much will the Luxeed LLounge cost in Australia?
No price has been announced, and we won't guess one. When Luxeed or Chery prints an Australian price, we will add it.
Is the Luxeed Stormax coming to Australia?
It is named as the second model, but no Australian timing has been given. Luxeed quotes the overseas Stormax at 460kW and 775Nm from a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive electric setup on an 800-volt system, with 0-100km/h in under 3.9 seconds. Those are not Australian figures.
Is Luxeed a Huawei brand?
In China, Australian outlets describe Luxeed as a Chery brand developed with Huawei. Luxeed's international releases call it Chery Group's luxury new-energy brand and don't mention Huawei, and Drive quotes Shawn Xu saying that internationally there is no relation with Huawei, hardware or software.
Does the Luxeed LLounge have an ANCAP rating?
We hold no ANCAP rating for any Luxeed, so there is no data to report, and none carries over from another Chery model. Check ancap.com.au before you buy.
