Recall one: the RAM 1500

  • Make and model as printed: RAM TRUCKS DT 1500
  • Variant applicability as printed: All variants within this model
  • Year range: 2026
  • Vehicles affected: 1,262
  • Defect: the second-row centre and left-side seat belt buckle anchors may not meet specifications, and as a result the seatbelts may not operate as intended
  • Hazard: in the event of an accident, a seat belt not operating as intended could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants
  • Remedy: owners will be contacted in writing by American Special Vehicles advising them to contact their authorised RAM dealer to have the rectification completed, free of charge
  • Register: REC-006711 on vehiclerecalls.gov.au, campaign RC2004067D, first published 26 August 2026
  • Contact on the notice: authorised RAM dealer, 1300 681 655

Recall two: the RAM 2500

  • Make and model as printed: RAM TRUCKS 2500 (DJ)
  • Variant applicability as printed: All variants within this model
  • Year range: 2026
  • Vehicles on the notice: 73
  • Defect: a manufacturing defect in the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) means Electronic Stability Control (ESC) may fail, which may result in a loss of vehicle control
  • Hazard: a loss of vehicle control could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users
  • Remedy: owners should contact their nearest authorised RAM dealer to have the vehicle inspected and the work carried out, free of charge
  • Register: REC-006701 on vehiclerecalls.gov.au, campaign RC2003936D, first published 18 August 2026
  • Contact on the notice: authorised RAM dealer, 1300 681 655
  • Supplier on both notices: American Special Vehicles Pty Ltd

If you own a 2026 RAM 1500 or 2500, there are two separate campaigns on the federal Vehicle Recalls register from the same supplier, American Special Vehicles, and they have nothing to do with each other. One is a seat belt problem on the 1500. The other is a stability control problem on the 2500. Both were first published in August 2026.

The bigger of the two by volume is REC-006711 on the DT 1500. The notice puts the count at 1,262 and says, in its own words, that due to a manufacturing defect the second-row centre and left-side seat belt buckle anchors may not meet specifications, so the seatbelts may not operate as intended. That is the second row, the centre and left-side positions.

What the notices name, and what they do not

Both notices print "All variants within this model" under variant applicability, and both print a year range of 2026. Neither names an engine, a grade or a cab configuration anywhere, so no individual grade is named on either notice. Run your VIN.

RAM in AustraliaStatus on the two notices
DT 1500, year range 2026, all variantsNamed on REC-006711
2500 (DJ), year range 2026, all variantsNamed on REC-006701
RAM 3500Not named on the notices, run your VIN
Any 1500 or 2500 outside the 2026 year rangeNot named on the notices, run your VIN

Neither notice mentions any field incidents. We are not going to extend either model string on RAM's behalf, and neither should a forum post. The VIN list attached to each notice is the answer for an individual truck.

The 2026 RAMs we list, and what they cost

Those are the prices held on our own rows, before on-road costs. The notices name the model, not the grade, so the last column shows which notice covers that model in its 2026 year range; whether a particular truck is on it comes down to its VIN. For safety ratings, see the car pages linked above.

If you tow with one

The 2500 notice says Electronic Stability Control may fail, and that this may result in a loss of vehicle control. If you have a van or a float on the back of a 2026 RAM, the numbers below are the ones we list for each variant.

Payload 890 kg · GVM 3,505 · GCM 7,711 · Braked tow 4,500 · Tow-ball 400 kg

Load on the vehicle 350 kgWhole rig (kerb + load + trailer) 4,762 kg / GCM 7,711 kg

Passengers, accessories and the tow-ball all count against the vehicle's payload and GVM. The trailer adds to GCM.

Passengers & luggage 150 kg

Total weight of people and gear inside the vehicle

Trailer / caravan weight (ATM) 2,000 kg

Fully-loaded trailer weight, not the dry tare

Tow-ball download 200 kg

Assumed at 10% of trailer ATM

Rear axle (optional)

Enter both from a weighbridge / your compliance plate to add a rear-axle gauge. Nothing here is estimated.

How these are calculated

Payload = GVM − kerb weight. Passengers, accessories and the tow-ball download all count against it.

GVM used = kerb + passengers + accessories + tow-ball.

GCM used = kerb + passengers + accessories + trailer (ATM). The tow-ball isn't added twice: it's part of the vehicle load and comes out of the trailer's axle weight, so (kerb + load + tow-ball) + (ATM − tow-ball) = kerb + load + ATM.

Tow = trailer ATM vs the braked rating. Tow-ball is assumed at 10% of the trailer (a common rule of thumb) unless you enter your own.

When a vehicle's kerb weight isn't published but its payload is, we derive kerb = GVM − payload. Manufacturers usually quote payload off the lightest build, so a car with options already fitted will have a little less real-world payload.

Vehicle weights (kerb, GVM, GCM, braked-tow and tow-ball limits) are the manufacturer's published figures from our database. Figures are a guide, not independently verified. Confirm against the compliance plate and never exceed rated GVM, GCM, tow or tow-ball limits.

Figures are the ones held on each CarSorted row. The two 2500 Laramie Cummins rows are left out of the selector because their stored gross vehicle mass and kerb weight do not reconcile, and we would rather show nothing than a payload we cannot stand behind. A 2026 RAM owner checklist

  1. Run the VIN against both notices. REC-006711 and REC-006701 each carry a downloadable VIN list. A 1500 cannot be on the 2500 notice and the reverse is also true, so the one you need depends on which truck is in the driveway.
  2. Book it in. On the 1500, American Special Vehicles writes to owners and asks them to contact their authorised RAM dealer. On the 2500, the notice tells owners to contact their nearest authorised RAM dealer themselves. Either way the phone number printed is 1300 681 655.
  3. On the 1500, think about the back seat. The defect sits at the second-row centre and left-side buckle anchors. The notice does not tell owners to stop using those seats, but it does say the seatbelts may not operate as intended, so that is a conversation worth having with the dealer when you book.
  4. Keep the paperwork. Hang on to the dealer's record that the recall work was done, and put it in the service file.

Disclaimer: Every recall detail on this page comes from recall notices REC-006711 (campaign RC2004067D, first published 26 August 2026) and REC-006701 (campaign RC2003936D, first published 18 August 2026) on the Vehicle Recalls register at vehiclerecalls.gov.au, read on 1 October 2026. The counts and model strings are accurate at the time of publishing and may change if either campaign is extended. Pricing, towing and mass references reflect our own RAM rows and prices are before on-road costs. Confirm the status of an individual vehicle through the register or with an authorised RAM dealer on 1300 681 655. Read our methodology for how we source and verify recall data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which RAM 1500s are covered by REC-006711?
The notice prints the make as RAM TRUCKS and the model as DT 1500, with a year range of 2026 and variant applicability of all variants within this model. Vehicles affected: 1,262. It names no grade, engine or cab, so a grade such as the Rebel, Laramie Sport or Limited is not named on the notice: run your VIN against the list attached to it.
What is the defect on the RAM 1500?
In the notice's own words, due to a manufacturing defect, the second-row centre and left-side seat belt buckle anchors may not meet specifications. As a result, the seatbelts may not operate as intended. The hazard line reads: in the event of an accident, a seat belt not operating as intended could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.
What is REC-006701 on the RAM 2500?
It is a separate campaign, number RC2003936D, first published on 18 August 2026. The notice prints the model as 2500 (DJ), the year range as 2026 and the variant applicability as all variants within this model, with 73 trucks on the list. The defect, in its own words: due to a manufacturing defect in the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) may fail. This may result in a loss of vehicle control.
What does either repair cost?
Nothing to the owner. For the 1500, the notice says owners of affected vehicles will be contacted in writing by American Special Vehicles advising them to contact their authorised RAM dealer to have the rectification completed, free of charge. For the 2500, it says owners should contact their nearest authorised RAM dealer to have the vehicle inspected and the work carried out, free of charge. Neither notice goes further than that, so anything about what happens in the workshop is a question for your dealer.
What about the RAM 3500?
The RAM 3500 is not named on either notice, so run your VIN. The same goes for any 1500 or 2500 outside the 2026 year range the notices print. Not named is not the same as cleared, and it is not the same as caught up in it either.
Who do I call?
The contact printed on both notices is an authorised RAM dealer on 1300 681 655, and the supplier on both is American Special Vehicles Pty Ltd. The notices sit at vehiclerecalls.gov.au as REC-006711 and REC-006701, each with a downloadable VIN list. The responsible regulator named on both is the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts.
