Ford has a fire-risk campaign open on the Transit Custom, and the scope is much narrower than the word "Transit Custom" suggests. REC-006724 covers 777 vans, and the notice names exactly one body: Certain 2024-2026 Model Year Transit Custom - Double Cab in Van. If your van has the second row of seats behind the front pair, this is the week to check the VIN.

The defect, in the notice's own words: due to a manufacturing defect, there may be insufficient clearance between a bulkhead mounting bolt and the fuel tank. This may lead to a fuel or fuel vapour leak and in the presence of an external ignition source could result in a vehicle fire. The hazard line is equally blunt. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders.

The notice doesn't say where on the van the bolt sits or how the repair is done, and it names no engine, grade or drive type anywhere. It also doesn't mention any field incidents or injuries.

What the notice names, and what it does not

Standard van bodies (SWB and LWB)Not named on the notice, run your VIN
Transit Custom PHEVNot named on the notice, run your VIN

"Not named" is not the same as "cleared", and it is not the same as "caught up in it" either. The notice prints one variant string and we are not going to extend it for Ford. The 777 figure is the count on the published list, so the VIN is the only answer for an individual van.

What owners should do

  1. Check the VIN. The notice at vehiclerecalls.gov.au/recalls/rec-006724 carries a downloadable VIN list. Ford also runs a VIN lookup at ford.com.au/support/recalls.
  2. Wait for the letter, or get ahead of it. The notice says owners of affected vehicles will be contacted in writing by Ford to request they contact an authorised Ford dealer to arrange inspection and repair, free of charge.
  3. Call the number on the notice. The contact printed is the Ford Customer Relationship Centre on 13 FORD (13 3673). The notice also says you can contact any authorised Ford dealer.

What we list on CarSorted

We do not carry a Double Cab in Van row yet. The diesel Transit Custom we list is a standard van, and we are linking it for pricing and specification context, not because it is on the notice.

DieselTransit Custom 340L SWB Van Auto$62,990No, this is a standard van body

That row carries a payload of 1,336kg. It has no ANCAP rating recorded against it, so we show no data rather than a number. Ford Australia does not print a list price on its Transit Custom pages at the moment, so the figure above is the one we hold on our own row.

This is the standard van row, which is not the body named on REC-006724. It is here for price and load specs.

If the double-cab layout is the reason you are shopping a van at all, the trade is load length against seats, and the bulkhead is where that trade happens. Our cargo simulator will tell you whether the pallets or the long lengths you actually carry still go in once the second row takes its share of the floor.

Disclaimer: Every recall detail on this page comes from recall notice REC-006724 (Ford campaign 26S59), first published on the Vehicle Recalls register at vehiclerecalls.gov.au on 18 September 2026. The affected count and the variant string are accurate at the time of publishing and may change if the campaign is extended. Pricing and specification references reflect our own Transit Custom row and are before on-road costs. Confirm the status of an individual vehicle through the register or with Ford on 13 FORD (13 3673). Read our methodology for how we source and verify recall data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Ford Transit Customs are covered by REC-006724?
The notice prints the variants as Certain 2024-2026 Model Year Transit Custom - Double Cab in Van, with a year range of 2024 to 2026 and 777 vehicles affected. That is the only body the notice names. It does not name the standard Transit Custom van bodies, the Transit Custom PHEV or the E-Transit Custom, so for any of those the honest answer is that they are not named on the notice and you should run your VIN.
What is the defect?
In the notice's own words, due to a manufacturing defect there may be insufficient clearance between a bulkhead mounting bolt and the fuel tank. This may lead to a fuel or fuel vapour leak and in the presence of an external ignition source could result in a vehicle fire.
What is the hazard?
The notice says a vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders.
What is the remedy and what does it cost?
Nothing to the owner. The notice says owners of affected vehicles will be contacted in writing by Ford to request they contact an authorised Ford dealer to arrange inspection and repair, free of charge. The notice does not go further than that, so anything about what happens in the workshop is a question for your dealer.
How do I check my van?
The official notice is REC-006724 at vehiclerecalls.gov.au, Ford campaign number 26S59, first published 18 September 2026. It carries a downloadable VIN list. The contact printed on the notice is Ford's Customer Relationship Centre on 13 FORD (13 3673), and the responsible regulator named on it is the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts.
Does CarSorted list the Double Cab in Van?
Not yet. The diesel Transit Custom row we carry is the 340L SWB Van Auto at $62,990 before on-road costs, which is a standard van body and not the body named on the notice. We link it here for pricing and specification context only.
