Chery Stockman Hybrid Prototype Spotted Testing in Australia Ahead of 2026 Launch
Chery's COO Lucas H. has shared the first photo of a running Chery Stockman Super Hybrid prototype on an Australian roadside, the clearest sign yet that the brand's first dual-cab ute is on track for a late-2026 local launch, with Australia set to be its first market in the world. The Stockman skips a straight diesel and goes after the plug-in hybrid ute wave led by the BYD Shark 6, but with an unusual diesel PHEV. Chery calls it Super Hybrid: a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel paired with electric drive for a claimed 350kW/800Nm combined, four-wheel drive with low range, around 100km of electric-only range from a battery of roughly 34kWh, and a combined fuel claim near 2.0L/100km. Crucially for the segment it keeps a full 3,500kg braked tow rating and a payload around 1,000kg, on a big 5,450mm body with a 3,250mm wheelbase. Pricing has not been announced, but Chery's undercutting reputation means anything below the Shark 6 will draw a crowd. All figures are manufacturer claims and indicative until the Australian launch.

Chery Australia rolls the Tiggo 7 into MY26 with a fresh 1.5-litre turbo four (108kW/210Nm, 6.9 L/100km) replacing the old 1.6T, but keeps petrol driveaway pricing untouched at $29,990 Urban and $33,990 Ultimate. The bigger story is the first plug-in Tiggo 7. Super Hybrid Urban $34,990 driveaway, Super Hybrid Ultimate $38,990 driveaway on a launch offer that runs 1 July to 30 September 2026, then $39,990 and $43,990 after. Series-parallel PHEV: 105kW/215Nm 1.5T petrol plus a single 150kW/310Nm electric motor through a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission, feeding an 18.4kWh LFP battery for 93km NEDC electric-only range, 1.4 L/100km combined and up to 1,200km of combined range. Chery also lists 40kW DC fast-charging, which is rare at this price. Petrol carries a 5-star ANCAP under the 2023 to 2025 protocol from the earlier Tiggo 7 Pro assessment, Super Hybrid coverage pending. 7-year unlimited-km vehicle warranty across the range, 8-year unlimited-km battery cover on the PHEV, 7-year capped-price servicing. Lands as Australia's cheapest new plug-in hybrid SUV during the launch offer, undercutting the BYD Sealion 5 driveaway, MG HS Super Hybrid and Jaecoo J7 SHS.

Chery Australia moves the Stockman diesel PHEV ute from teaser to spec sheet. Combined 350kW/800Nm out of a 2.5L turbo-diesel + e-motor plug-in hybrid stack, up to 100km electric-only range on NEDC, 3,500kg braked tow, 1,000kg payload and 247mm ground clearance. Body is 5,450 x 2,010 x 1,890mm on a 3,250mm wheelbase with a 1,560 x 1,560 x 500mm tray. Three individually selectable locking diffs (front, centre, rear) plus low-range, crawl control, tight-turn assist and factory all-terrain tyres. Cabin runs suede on dash and headliner, leather seats front and rear, heated and ventilated front pews, lie-flat front passenger seat, head-up display and wireless charging. 7-year vehicle warranty with 8-year unlimited-km battery cover. Q4 2026 diesel launch for Australia as the first international market, with a follow-up 2.0T petrol PHEV in 2027 making 395kW/1,000Nm on coil rear springs. ANCAP not yet rated, Australian RRP still TBC. Chery has flagged every headline figure as preliminary pending final homologation.
