If you want an electric SUV and the budget stops around $30,000 on the road, the list just got a new name on it. Leapmotor has priced the B03X from $26,990 before on-road costs, or $29,990 drive-away as a launch offer. That's lower than any electric SUV we currently hold a price for.

Leapmotor Australia announced the pricing on 6 October. There are two grades, the Style and the Design LR (long range), both front-wheel drive. Cars reach dealers in November.

Current price on CarSorted: BYD Atto 2 Dynamic $31,990 RRP, as at 4 Oct 2026; BYD Atto 1 Essential $23,990 RRP, as at 16 Sep 2026.

Read the fine print on the drive-away figures. They apply to cars in Acorn Brown, the one standard colour, purchased and delivered between 1 October and 31 December 2026 or while stocks last. They include 12 months' registration, CTP, stamp duty and dealer delivery, and exclude government, fleet and rental buyers. The other five colours are premium paint at $990 (MSRP).

Leapmotor quotes about 16 minutes for a 30 to 80 per cent DC charge on both, under optimal conditions, and a 160km/h top speed. It hasn't published a torque figure for the Design LR. The body is 4,270mm long and 1,810mm wide on a 2,605mm wheelbase, and Leapmotor's Australian site quotes a 475-litre boot including the under-floor Leap Box, with up to 1,315 litres of cargo space in the release.

Equipment

The Style gets a 14.6-inch touchscreen, an 8.8-inch driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, a wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, six speakers, LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, roof rails, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. Leapmotor's Leap Flex rear seats and the Leap Box storage bin are standard too.

The Design LR adds 18-inch alloys, TechnoLeather seats, a six-way power driver's seat, heated front seats and steering wheel, a 12-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera with a built-in dashcam recorder and power-folding mirrors.

Safety

Every B03X has seven airbags and Leapmotor's LEAP Pilot driver assistance, which the release says covers 21 systems including adaptive cruise, lane centring, traffic jam assist, AEB, blind-spot detection, front and rear cross-traffic alert with braking, lane keep assist and driver attention monitoring. ANCAP: no data. We don't hold an ANCAP rating for the B03X.

How It Compares

We ran the numbers against every electric SUV on sale in our directory with a price attached. The cheapest by list price is the BYD Atto 2 Dynamic at $31,990 before on-roads, so the B03X Style lists for $5,000 less. The cheapest drive-away figure we hold is the GWM ORA 5 Lux at $33,990 for a Victorian private buyer, $4,000 above the B03X Style's offer. Twenty on-sale electric SUVs in our directory carry no price at all, mostly luxury models, and they're left out.

What you give up for the saving is battery. Our Atto 2 Dynamic row lists 51.1kWh and 345km WLTP, and the ORA 5 Lux 58.3kWh and 435km, against the Style's 39.8kWh and 292km. The more interesting match is the Design LR. At $33,990 drive-away it costs the same as the ORA 5 Lux, with 382km against the ORA's 435km, and it brings the 360-degree camera and heated seats. If you only need a small car rather than an SUV, the BYD Atto 1 and Geely EX2 hatches sit lower again. See the Atto 2 vs ORA 5 comparison for the two cars the B03X is chasing.

Warranty

Six years or 150,000km on the car, eight years or 160,000km on the high-voltage battery, eight years of roadside assistance and eight years of capped-price servicing. Services fall due every 12 months or 20,000km.

What This Means for Buyers

The Style has the smallest battery of the three, and the lowest price. If most of your driving is short city trips and you can charge at home, 292km of rated range covers a lot of weeks, and $29,990 drive-away is $4,000 under the lowest drive-away electric SUV price we held before it. If you do regular country trips, the Design LR is the one to price, and it lines up directly against the ORA 5 Lux.

Remember the drive-away offer is colour-specific and ends on 31 December 2026, so a car delivered in January could cost more. Ask the dealer for the drive-away price in writing for the exact colour you want.

What We Don't Know Yet

  • Capped-price service costs

We'll add both grades to the B03X page as the details firm up, and the rest of the range is on our Leapmotor page.
