When we covered the MGU9 EV in September, it was a "coming soon" with towing figures and no on-sale date. It's now on sale. MG Motor Australia's website lists the electric dual-cab as available now, in a single grade, and its online configurator is taking orders.
"The MGU9 EV gives customers another option to consider, combining the capability they need with lower running costs."Dimitri Andreatidis, marketing director, MG Motor Australia

MG says it applies to new stock sold and delivered between 1 and 31 October 2026, while stocks last. Other states will differ.
The EV joins two other electric utes listed on sale in our directory, the Toyota HiLux BEV and the KGM Musso EV. They are built for different jobs, so compare price, tow ratings, payload and tray size on their own pages before you short-list.

The towing number is the headline: 3,500kg braked, the same rating our directory holds for the diesel MGU9. The figure to read next to it is the 685kg payload. Towball download counts against payload, so a heavy van plus a full crew and gear can use it up quickly. And towing anything heavy will cut into that 430km, which is a laboratory figure, so plan charging stops on long trips with a trailer on.
MG has fitted four-wheel electronic air suspension that lowers the ute by 20mm at 80km/h and 40mm at 120km/h to save energy, and raises it for off-road clearance. A heat pump is standard for cabin heating.

Power to Go, and the Cabin
Vehicle-to-load is built in. MG quotes 6.6kW from the external CCS2 charging port, plus three 2.2kW outlets across the tub and the frunk. The internal outlets work while you're driving, but the external one doesn't. For a campsite or a work site, that's a lot of power without a generator. MG also says a standard pallet fits in the tub.
Inside, MG lists dual 12.3-inch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 15W wireless phone charging and an eight-speaker JBL sound system. The driver's seat is heated, ventilated and has a massage function, the front passenger seat and steering wheel are heated, and a 360-degree camera is standard.
Safety
Our directory doesn't yet hold an ANCAP record for the MGU9 EV, so it shows as no data on CarSorted rather than a rating carried over from the diesel. Check ANCAP's website for the EV before you buy.
What This Means for Buyers
If you want an electric ute that can still pull a decent van, the MGU9 EV is now something you can order, not just read about. At $78,990 before on-roads, the questions are how far you tow, how much you carry and where you charge. Look at the 685kg payload and your real towing distances, then compare it on our MGU9 EV page against the diesel MGU9 and the other utes in our directory. The facts are side by side. The decision is yours.
