If you have ever wanted a rally-inspired hot hatch with six-point harnesses for the school run, Renault Australia will now take your name. Its page for the Renault 5 Turbo 3E reads “reservations now open”, with buttons to register your interest and to contact Renault to reserve. It is a three-door electric hot hatch styled on the 1980 Renault 5 Turbo, and Renault says 1,980 will be built in total.
What the page doesn't have is a price, a delivery date or a number for Australia. And its performance, range and charging figures carry footnotes saying they are subject to change before the car is approved, or are estimates. So below, Renault's numbers are written as provisional, and anything else is credited to the outlet that reported it.
What Renault Australia Has Printed
These are Renault's provisional figures from its Australian page, checked on 23 October 2026. None of them is final until the car is approved for sale.
| Renault 5 Turbo 3E (electric) | Renault's provisional figure |
|---|---|
| Motors and drive | Two, inside the rear wheels; rear-wheel drive |
| Maximum power | 555hp (400kW) |
| Total torque, as Renault quotes it | 4,800Nm |
| 0 to 100km/h | Less than 3.5 seconds |
| Top speed (on the track) | 270km/h |
| Unladen weight | 1,450kg |
| Battery | 70kWh |
| WLTP range | Estimated greater than 400km |
| DC charging | Up to 350kW; 15 to 80% in an estimated 15 minutes |
Source: Renault Australia, 5 Turbo 3E page, 23 October 2026. Renault's footnotes: technical specification subject to change prior to vehicle approval; exact range data communicated after the vehicle is approved; charging time is an estimate.
That 4,800Nm figure looks wild because it is measured differently. CarExpert reported it is torque at the wheel rather than at the motor, so don't hold it up against a torque figure on a normal spec sheet.
The rest of the page is pure rally nostalgia: a carbon superstructure, wheels up to 20 inches, a charging socket hidden in a side air scoop, bucket seats with six-point harnesses, a rally handbrake for drifting on the track and a numbered plate. Renault says buyers can go as far as a tailor-made livery worked up with its designers.

The Price Talk, as Reported
Renault Australia hasn't published a price, and our listing shows “No data” until it does. Two outlets have reported European figures and worked them into local guesses. They don't agree with each other, which is a good reason not to treat either as a price.
| Reported by | European figure, as reported | Outlet's Australian estimate |
|---|---|---|
| CarExpert | EUR155,000 provisional launch price; EUR50,000 reservation fee | North of $300,000 |
| CarsGuide | EUR160,000 ex-factory; EUR45,000 down payment | Could nudge or cross $350,000 |
Current price on CarSorted: Renault Scenic E-Tech Techno EV60 $55,990 RRP, as at 24 Jun 2026; Renault Scenic E-Tech Techno Long Range EV87 $59,990 RRP, as at 24 Jun 2026.
Reported figures, not Renault Australia prices. Both outlets point out that import duty, GST and luxury car tax land on top of a European figure, and CarsGuide adds freight from France, registration and insurance.
CarsGuide also reported Renault describing the car as its “most advanced and most expensive” vehicle. CarExpert reported that at its estimated price it would top the $108,000 Megane R.S. Trophy-R Record Version of 2019 as the priciest new Renault sold here.
How Many for Australia?
Renault hasn't said. Renault Australia general manager Glen Sealey told CarExpert: “The cars are being allocated on a first come, first served basis globally. So buyers in Australia have the same opportunity to secure a car as a buyer in Europe or anywhere else in the world.” CarExpert also reported that each car is built to order, which means there won't be stock to walk in and buy.
The Australian story goes back to Christmas 2024, when WhichCar reported Sealey saying Renault Australia had “finally locked it in just hours away from the start of the holiday shutdown period”. On timing, CarExpert reported Renault putting Australian customer deliveries in 2027, with homologation still to come, and CarsGuide and WhichCar both pointed to 2027 as well. Renault Australia's own page gives no date.
Our listing is marked coming soon and holds no price or specification until Renault Australia publishes one.
What Renault Sells Here Today
For a sense of scale, our directory lists 29 Renault variants as on sale in Australia, across the Duster, Arkana, Koleos, Symbioz, Megane E-Tech and Scenic E-Tech, plus the Kangoo, Trafic and Master vans. The most powerful of them make 160kW, so Renault's provisional 400kW for the Turbo 3E is two and a half times that. The highest list price we hold for any of them is $79,990 before on-road costs, for the Master E-Tech LWB van.
The regular electric Renault 5 isn't part of that line-up. Renault Australia's range menu, checked on 23 October 2026, doesn't list it. The Turbo 3E is a different car underneath anyway: CarExpert reported Renault saying the 3E sits on its own platform, not the 5 E-Tech's.
If you want an electric Renault you can actually buy this year, these are the passenger cars in our directory.
| Electric Renault (our rows) | Power | Battery | WLTP range | Price as stored |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Megane E-Tech Techno | 160kW | 60kWh | 454km | $54,990 drive-away (VIC) |
| Scenic E-Tech Techno EV60 | 125kW | 60kWh | 430km | $55,990 RRP |
| Scenic E-Tech Techno Long Range EV87 | 160kW | 87kWh | 625km | $59,990 RRP |
| Scenic E-Tech Esprit Alpine EV87 | 160kW | 87kWh | 625km | $65,990 RRP |
Current price on CarSorted: Renault Scenic E-Tech Techno EV60 $55,990 RRP, as at 24 Jun 2026; Renault Scenic E-Tech Techno Long Range EV87 $59,990 RRP, as at 24 Jun 2026; Renault Scenic E-Tech Esprit Alpine EV87 $65,990 RRP, as at 24 Jun 2026.
Power, battery and WLTP range from Renault Australia's Megane E-Tech and Scenic E-Tech pages, 23 October 2026. Prices are the values held against each row in our directory on that date. RRP is the list price before on-road costs; drive-away includes them and varies by state.
Those are family cars, not track toys, but if you are weighing one up, our range calculator shows what highway speed and cold mornings do to a WLTP figure, and the Renault range page has the full line-up.
Safety
ANCAP: no data. ANCAP has not published a rating for the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, and we won't show a star rating against it unless ANCAP does. Renault's page says the driver-assistance systems are on by default and can be switched off partly or completely.
What This Means for Buyers
For nearly everyone, this is a car to look at, not shop for. If you are serious, the move is to register through Renault Australia now, because Sealey told CarExpert allocation is global, with Australian buyers on the same footing as anyone else, and to get the reservation terms, the deposit and the final price in writing before you commit. Expect the figures to firm up once the car is approved: when Renault Australia prints a price or confirmed specification, it goes into our 5 Turbo 3E listing with the document it came from.
Disclaimer: Specifications are Renault Australia's provisional figures from its 5 Turbo 3E page as at 23 October 2026, which Renault states are subject to change prior to vehicle approval. Renault Australia had not published an Australian price, delivery date or Australian allocation. Prices, conversions and estimates in the price section are as reported by CarExpert (published 28 April 2025, updated 22 December 2025) and CarsGuide (published 29 April 2025, updated 4 March 2026), not Renault Australia figures. Timing is as reported by CarExpert, CarsGuide and WhichCar. Power, battery and range for current electric Renaults are from Renault Australia's model pages; their prices are the values held in our directory on 23 October 2026.
