The CX-30 is Mazda's small SUV, and it leans on equipment and cabin trim rather than space. From $29,990 RRP the G20 Pure brings a 114kW 2.0-litre, a head-up display, radar cruise and the core assists, and the G25 grades step up to a 139kW 2.5-litre with optional all-wheel drive. The trade-offs are figures: a 317-litre boot, 1,200kg towing, 10,000km service intervals and no ANCAP rating on our records.

Written 7 April 2026. The snapshot, tables, prices and scores on this page update from our car data; figures quoted in the text are as at that date.

The Mazda CX-30 is Mazda's small SUV, sold in ten versions on our rows: five with a 2.0-litre engine (G20) and five with a 2.5-litre (G25), two of them with all-wheel drive.

Its pitch is equipment and cabin trim more than space. Even the base G20 Pure has a head-up display, radar cruise control with stop and go, blind-spot monitoring and traffic sign recognition in Mazda's brochure. The figures that work against it are the boot, the towing and the lack of a hybrid, and this review sets both sides out.

We have not driven the CX-30. This review is built from Mazda's current Australian brochure, which we keep on file, and our rows for each grade.

Is it good value?

How much is the CX-30?

All prices are RRP, before on-road costs:

  • G20 Pure: $29,990
  • G20 Evolve: $33,490
  • G20 Touring: $37,490
  • G20 Touring LE: $39,990
  • G25 Touring: $40,490
  • G20 Astina: $41,490

What each step up buys

Mazda's brochure gives the G20 Pure an 8.8-inch Mazda Connect screen with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB+ and eight speakers, a 7-inch driver display, the Active Driving Display head-up unit, keyless push-button start, cloth trim, single-zone air-conditioning, rear parking sensors and 16-inch alloys.

The Evolve adds $3,500 for 18-inch alloys, dual-zone climate with rear vents, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger and a rear centre armrest. The Touring adds leather trim, paddle shifters and front parking sensors. The Touring LE brings Terracotta Maztex and suede trim and makes the Vision Technology pack standard: a 10.25-inch screen, 360-degree camera, driver monitoring, front cross-traffic alert and Cruising & Traffic Support. On the Pure, Evolve, Touring and GT SP that pack is an option, and we do not hold a printed price for it.

The GT SP pairs the 2.5-litre with burgundy leather, a 10.25-inch screen, a sunroof and a heated steering wheel. The Astina grades add a 12-speaker Bose system, adaptive LED headlights, a power tailgate, heated front seats and the full Vision Technology pack.

What it costs on the road and per week

Our drive-away estimate for the G20 Pure is about $32,710 in VIC and $32,270 in QLD, and for the G25 Touring about $43,650 and $43,090. On our weekly-cost model ($5,000 deposit, five years at an assumed 7.5%, plus fuel, rego and tyres) the Pure is about $177 a week in VIC and $176 in QLD, and the G25 Touring about $227 and $226. Servicing and insurance are not included.

How it compares at the same money

The Hyundai Kona 2.0 FWD is $33,700 RRP with 110kW, a 361-litre boot and 1,300kg towing. The Toyota Yaris Cross GX Hybrid 2WD is $31,790 RRP with a 3.8L/100km claim and a 390-litre boot, but 400kg of braked towing. The Nissan Qashqai Ti e-POWER is $47,165 RRP with a 4.8L/100km claim and a 404-litre boot. All three have bigger boots than the CX-30's 317 litres; the Yaris Cross and Qashqai also offer hybrid drivetrains, which the CX-30 does not.

How much fuel does it use?

Fuel use and range

Every CX-30 runs on 91 RON regular unleaded, with i-stop and cylinder deactivation listed as standard. The G20 is rated at 6.3L/100km combined (7.5 urban, 5.6 extra-urban), the G25 FWD at 6.6, and the G25 AWD at 6.8. At $1.95 a litre over 15,000km those come to about $1,840, $1,930 and $1,990 a year.

Front-drive cars carry a 51-litre tank, good for a calculated 810km on the G20's figure; the AWD cars carry 48 litres, about 706km. Against a hybrid rival the gap is real: the Yaris Cross GX Hybrid's 3.8L/100km claim is about $1,110 a year on the same sums, roughly $730 less than the G20. Over five years that is around $3,650, more than the $1,800 price difference between the G20 Pure and the Yaris Cross GX Hybrid 2WD.

The urban figure is worth a look too. The G20's 7.5L/100km in town and 5.6 on the open road show where its fuel goes, and a short-trip city driver will see a number nearer the urban figure than the combined one. Choosing AWD costs about $60 a year in fuel on the claims and three litres of tank.

What does it cost to own?

Warranty, servicing and roadside

Mazda covers the CX-30 for five years with unlimited kilometres, with five years of roadside assistance on our rows. Services are every 12 months or 10,000km, so a driver doing 15,000km a year will need more than one visit a year.

We do not hold Mazda's capped-price service figures for the CX-30, so there is no per-visit cost or five-year total on this page. Ask the dealer for the G20 or G25 schedule in writing, because the two engines may not cost the same to service. Mazda Connected Services, listed in the brochure, includes stolen-vehicle assistance and vehicle status checks through an app.

We hold no resale figure for the CX-30. Tyres are a modest running cost: the Pure's 215/65 R16 and every other grade's 215/55 R18 are common sizes, so replacements should be easy to find and price at any tyre shop.

How safe is it?

Safety

We have no ANCAP rating on record for the CX-30, so this page does not state one. Check ancap.com.au for the current status before you buy.

On equipment, Mazda's brochure lists for every grade: Smart Brake Support forward, rear and rear-crossing, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, radar cruise with stop and go, traffic sign recognition, driver attention alert, high beam control and a reverse camera, with front, front-side, driver's knee and curtain airbags. Driver monitoring, front cross-traffic alert, Cruising & Traffic Support and the 360-degree camera are in the Vision Technology pack, standard on the Touring LE and Astina grades.

There are ISOFIX points on the two outer rear seats and top tethers on all three rear positions.

What is it like inside?

Space, boot and garage fit

The CX-30 is 4,395mm long, 1,795mm wide and 1,540mm tall on a 2,655mm wheelbase, with 175mm of ground clearance and a 10.6m turning circle. That footprint suits tight city garages and parking, and the height clears most car park bars with room to spare.

The boot is where it gives ground: Mazda quotes 317 litres (VDA) on every grade, with a temporary steel spare under the floor. That is less than the Kona's 361, the Yaris Cross 2WD's 390 and the Qashqai's 404. A compact pram fits; a large travel system may need the rear seats folded, so try yours in the boot-fit tool below.

Trim runs from black cloth on the Pure and Evolve to leather on the Touring, GT SP and Astina, with Maztex and suede on the Touring LE.

Does it have good tech?

Screens, phones and sound

The Pure, Evolve, Touring and G25 Touring use an 8.8-inch Mazda Connect screen, controlled by Mazda's rotary commander; the Touring LE, GT SP and Astina grades have a 10.25-inch screen. Every grade has a 7-inch driver display and the head-up display. Satellite navigation, DAB+ and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, with wireless phone mirroring and a wireless charger from the Evolve up. Audio is eight speakers, or a 12-speaker Bose system on the Astina grades.

What the figures say about driving it

The Mazda CX-30 G20 Pure has 78 kW for every tonne of kerb weight, 200Nm of torque. It weighs 1,468kg and turns in 10.6m. These are the figures that shape how quickly a car gets moving and how easily it parks.

Engines, drive and towing

The G20's 2.0-litre makes 114kW and 200Nm, and the G25's 2.5-litre 139kW and 252Nm, both through a 6-speed automatic. The front-drive cars weigh 1,468kg to 1,479kg and the AWD cars 1,546kg. All-wheel drive is offered on the G25 GT SP and Astina, and Mazda lists Off-road Traction Assist as an option on the AWD models.

On power-to-weight, the G20 works out to about 78kW per tonne and the G25 FWD about 94 to 95kW per tonne, a clear step for $3,000 over the equivalent G20 Touring. The AWD G25s weigh 67kg more than the FWD versions, which accounts for most of their 0.2L/100km fuel penalty. Brakes are 295mm ventilated discs at the front on every grade, with larger 303mm rear discs on the AWD cars.

Towing is 1,200kg braked and 600kg unbraked, with an 80kg towball download, when fitted with a Mazda genuine towing kit. That covers a box trailer or a small camper, and beats the Yaris Cross's 400kg, but sits below the Kona's 1,300kg.

The verdict

The CX-30 is for a buyer who values equipment and cabin trim over space. The G20 Pure at $29,990 RRP is the value point on the figures: a head-up display, radar cruise, blind-spot monitoring and traffic sign recognition for less than a Kona 2.0 or a Yaris Cross GX Hybrid. The G20 Touring LE at $39,990 bundles the Vision Technology pack, and the G25 grades suit buyers who want more power or all-wheel drive.

Look elsewhere if you need boot space (317 litres trails all three rivals here), if fuel bills matter most (no hybrid, and the Yaris Cross claims 3.8L/100km), or if a published ANCAP rating is a must, because we hold none for the CX-30.

Compare every grade on the CX-30 listing, or put it against the Kona in the compare tool.
