Avatr has named its second car for Australia, and it is a wagon. The Avatr 06T is a five-door electric wagon due here in the second half of 2027, following the 07L SUV that opens the brand's local line-up in the first half of the year. Drive describes Avatr as a premium brand of China's Changan Group with ties to battery maker CATL, and Huawei supplies the 06T's infotainment and driver-assistance tech.
None of this comes from an Avatr Australia document, because there isn't one yet. We checked again on 22 October and found no Australian Avatr website or pressroom. What we have is a set of interviews given to Australian media around the Paris motor show, so everything below is written as it was reported, with a link to the outlet that reported it.
What Changan Australia Has Said
The confirmation came from Andrew Haurissa, Changan Australia's head of brand and marketing. He told CarExpert: “[Avatr] 07L has been announced for the first half of the year next year. And, 06T second half of the year.” The same timing was reported by carsales, Chasing Cars, Drive and CarSauce, each on 12 October 2026.
On drivetrains, carsales reported that rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions are both expected here, and Chasing Cars reported that the exact Australian grades have not been signed off. CarExpert reported that right-hand-drive prototypes had already been spotted around Sydney, and Drive reported that the 06T goes on sale in Europe before it reaches Australian showrooms.
On where it sits, Haurissa told Chasing Cars the target was clear: “[We're] looking at the Germans.” carsales reported he expects the wagon to carry a modest premium over an equivalent Zeekr. Both carsales and Chasing Cars reported plans for about 10 Australian dealerships to start with, and four or five models by the end of 2028.
Then there is the $75,000 question. In the May 2026 Budget the Government announced a change to the FBT exemption for electric cars that would limit the full exemption to eligible EVs costing $75,000 or less from 1 April 2027. It is a proposal, not law yet: the ATO lists it under new legislation, and it still has to pass Parliament. On a sub-$75,000 06T, Haurissa told carsales: “Strategically, [a sub-$75,000 price would] be the right thing to do but it really depends on the variant that we pick as well.” He also told Chasing Cars the brand is “not big on omitting any of our key inclusions because then it will not be a good representation of the brand.” Read together, that is a version under $75,000 being considered, not promised, and it is not a price.
FBT figures current as of 22 October 2026
Thresholds, rebates and rules on this page change each financial year. We check them against the ATO, but always confirm the current position with the relevant authority before you sign. The 1 April 2027 FBT change for electric cars was announced in the 2026-27 Budget and is not yet law; check the ATO's current position before you sign a novated lease.
What Is Not Confirmed
Quite a lot, and it is the stuff that decides whether you would buy one.
- Price. No Australian price has been published. Our 06T listing shows no data for it, and will until Avatr prints one.
- Grades and equipment. Not signed off, as reported by Chasing Cars.
- The range-extender. China gets a version with a petrol generator. CarSauce reported the interview did not confirm it for Australia, and CarExpert reported it appears export markets will be electric. Asked about hybrids, Haurissa told CarSauce:
I never say never.
- Battery, range and charging for Australia. Not published.
- A month. The second half of 2027 is a six-month window.
The China-Market Car, as Reported
These figures belong to the 06T sold in China and are not Australian specifications. Drive and CarSauce report the body as 4,940mm long, 1,960mm wide and 1,455mm tall on a 2,940mm wheelbase, and carsales and Chasing Cars give the same length and wheelbase. Drive reported that makes it 123mm longer than a Zeekr 7GT. carsales, Chasing Cars and CarSauce report a rear-drive layout with two rear motors making up to 502kW, and a three-motor all-wheel-drive version making 712kW.
We're leaving the battery out on purpose. The outlets report different China-market battery sizes for the same car, and we have no Avatr document that settles it, so we are not picking one. The range claims are on China's CLTC cycle, which reads well above the WLTP figures in our directory, so we are not printing those either.
Where It Sits
In Avatr's own Australian line-up, the 06T is the wagon alongside the 07L SUV, arriving roughly six months later. Drive reported it is likely to be slightly more affordable than the 07L, but with no price for either car that is an expectation, not a fact.
The rivals the outlets name are also still on the way. Our Zeekr 7GT and Denza Z9GT listings are both marked coming soon, as is the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric Shooting Brake, and none of them carries an Australian price in our directory yet.
If you want an electric wagon now, here is what our directory lists as on sale today.
| Electric wagon on sale (our rows) | Drive | Battery | WLTP range | Price as stored |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toyota bZ4X Touring AWD | AWD | 74.7kWh | 488km | $69,990 RRP |
| Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo | AWD | 105kWh | 506km | No data |
| Porsche Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo | AWD | 105kWh | 505km | No data |
Current price on CarSorted: Toyota bZ4X Touring AWD $69,990 RRP, as at 6 Sep 2026.
As at 22 October 2026. RRP is the manufacturer's list price before on-road costs, as held in our directory. “No data” means we hold no price for that car, not that it has none. Battery and range are the figures stored against each row.
That is a short list, which is why a wave of electric wagons from Avatr, Zeekr, Denza and Mercedes-Benz is worth watching. For the cars that are priced, our range calculator shows what speed and cold weather do to a WLTP figure, or browse our electric listings and the Zeekr range.
Safety
ANCAP: no data. ANCAP has not published a rating for the Avatr 06T, and we will not show a star rating against it until ANCAP does.
What to Watch For
carsales reported that Australian pricing, standard equipment and the final powertrain are likely to be confirmed early next year. The 07L comes first, with pre-orders reported to open before the end of 2026, so how Avatr prices and specifies that car is a good early guide to how it will handle the wagon. When Avatr publishes a price for the 06T, it goes into our listing with the document it came from.
Disclaimer: The Australian timing, drivetrain expectations, dealer plans and quotes in this article are from interviews with Changan Australia's Andrew Haurissa as reported by CarExpert, carsales, Chasing Cars, Drive and CarSauce on 12 October 2026. Avatr had not published an Australian website, price or specification for the 06T as at 22 October 2026. Dimensions and outputs quoted are China-market figures as reported, not Australian specifications. The FBT change from 1 April 2027 was announced in the 2026-27 Budget and is not yet law (ATO, new legislation page, last updated 14 May 2026); confirm the current position with the ATO.
