Key Takeaways

  • Mercedes-Benz Australia now shows the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Two-Finish Edition on its G-Class pages, finished in MANUFAKTUR night black magno and non-metallic black
  • Reported, not yet printed by Mercedes: five cars for Australia at $425,327 before on-road costs, each with a "1 of 5" passenger grab handle
  • Underneath it is a G 63: Mercedes-Benz Australia quotes 430kW from a 3,982cc V8 and a nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT
  • The same two-tone split appears on Mercedes-Benz Australia's MANUFAKTUR page as the MANUFAKTUR Two-Finish Package, which raises the obvious question of whether you need the edition to get the look
  • No published Australian price, timing, allocation method or ANCAP rating from Mercedes yet

Mercedes-Benz Australia has added a new special edition to its G-Class pages: the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Two-Finish Edition. In Mercedes' own words it is "defined by meticulous craftsmanship and exceptional exclusivity" and "features a distinctive finish in MANUFAKTUR night black magno and non-metallic black." In plainer words, it is a black G 63 painted in two different blacks, one matte and one gloss, with the line between them following the car's body.

What Mercedes-Benz Australia's website does not yet say is how many are coming, what they cost or when they land. Those details come from Australian motoring press coverage in mid-September, which reports five cars for Australia at $425,327 before on-road costs. That may well be exactly what Mercedes told the press. We could not read it on a Mercedes-Benz Australia page, so in this story it stays a reported figure. Here is what is confirmed, what is not, and whether the idea behind this car makes sense for anyone who is not one of five buyers.

Pricing

There is one powertrain, so this table is short. The edition price is marked as reported because no Mercedes-Benz Australia page we could read prints it.

VariantUnits for AustraliaPowerPrice (before on-roads)
Petrol, 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8
Mercedes-AMG G 63 Two-Finish Edition5 (reported)430kW$425,327 (reported)

The coverage does not agree on the step over a regular G 63: CarExpert puts it at about $53,000, while GoAuto and Man of Many give $56,927. We have not put a standard G 63 price beside it here, and that is deliberate. Mercedes-Benz Australia's G 63 page shows its prices only through a location-based estimated drive-away calculator that did not return a figure to us, and the price we list for the standard G 63 has not been checked against Mercedes. We would rather leave the gap than print a comparison built on a number we cannot vouch for. If you are cross-shopping the two, get both prices from the same retailer on the same day.

Mercedes-Benz Australia's AMG page lists three G 63 model lines in its pricing panel: the G 63 Professional AMG Line, the G 63 and the G 63 Offroad PRO. Which of those the Two-Finish Edition is built on, if any, has not been published.

What Mercedes Has Confirmed

Here is everything we could read on Mercedes-Benz Australia's own site, first on 1 October 2026 and again on 4 October:

  • The name: Mercedes-AMG G 63 Two-Finish Edition, shown on both the G-Class brand page and the Mercedes-AMG G-Class model page.
  • The paint: MANUFAKTUR night black magno and non-metallic black. The AMG model page puts it as "an unmistakable G-Class, reimagined with a unique finish in MANUFAKTUR night black magno and non-metallic black."
  • The base car: the G 63, which Mercedes-Benz Australia lists at 430kW (585hp), a 3,982cc V8, a 220km/h top speed, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission, five seats, five doors and a 100-litre fuel tank.

That is a short list. On the AMG model page the edition sits in a carousel of highlights next to the AMG Performance Package, AMG Offroad PRO and a MANUFAKTUR hyper blue magno paint, all carrying the same footnote: "Optional equipment depending on the individual configuration." That is boilerplate across the whole carousel, so do not read too much into it, but it is a reminder that the site treats the edition as part of the G 63 range rather than a separate model with its own specification sheet.

What Has Only Been Reported

Australian coverage published on 17 September 2026 adds most of the detail that makes this car what it is. None of the following appears on a Mercedes-Benz Australia page we could reach, so treat it as reported until Mercedes publishes it or a retailer confirms it in writing:

  • Five cars for Australia, at $425,327 before on-road costs.
  • A passenger grab handle marked "1 of 5" in silver.
  • 22-inch forged wheels in black, styled after classic AMG monoblock wheels, plus the AMG Night Package II.
  • MANUFAKTUR titanium grey pearl and black upholstery, the Superior Line interior with a two-tone nappa-covered dashboard, and carbon-fibre trim.
  • Extensive hand finishing in Graz, Austria, with one car passing through the paint shop a day and several hours spent masking the dividing line between the two finishes alone.
  • The same 430kW and 850Nm V8, and a claimed 4.4 seconds to 100km/h.

None of that is implausible. The 430kW matches Mercedes-Benz Australia's own figure for the G 63, and 850Nm and 4.4 seconds are the figures we list for the standard G 63. But "five cars" and "$425,327" are the two facts that decide whether this is worth your time, and those are the two a buyer should get confirmed first.

The Paint Is Also a MANUFAKTUR Package

This is the part the launch coverage we read did not mention, and it is the most useful thing in this story for anyone shopping a G-Class who is not one of five buyers. Mercedes-Benz Australia's MANUFAKTUR G-Class page describes a MANUFAKTUR Two-Finish Package in these words: "Style up your G-Class with the spectacular two-finish combination: black non-metallic for greenhouse, bonnet and spare wheel cover; MANUFAKTUR night black magno for roof and lower body."

That is the same pair of colours named for the edition. So the paint scheme that defines the Two-Finish Edition appears to exist as a MANUFAKTUR package as well. What the page does not say is which G-Class models can have it in Australia, whether it can be ordered on a G 63 outside the edition, what it costs, or how long a build takes. Those are exactly the questions to put to a retailer.

If the package can be ordered on a standard G 63 here, the edition's reported premium of $53,000 to $56,927 is buying the wheels, the interior, the Night Package, the grab-handle plaque and the fact that there are only five. For a collector, the number five is the whole point. For someone who simply likes the look, the package may be the better route, and it would not tie you to one fixed specification. We do not know yet, and we will not guess the price of an option Mercedes has not printed.

Where It Sits Among G-Class Editions

Limited G-Classes are not new, and Mercedes-Benz Australia's G-Class page lists several. It describes the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Grand Edition as "limited to 1,000", the STRONGER THAN THE 1980s Edition as one of "460 units to be built", and the Final Edition G 500 as "1,500 exclusive units", alongside the G 63 Elements Edition. The page does not say how many of any of them came to Australia.

The Two-Finish Edition is a different kind of car. Its reported number is five for this country, not a four-figure build run, and its story is paint rather than a theme or an anniversary. That makes it closer to a showroom collector piece than a trim level. It is also why the usual questions buyers ask about a new model (how long is the wait, can I negotiate, will there be stock) do not really apply. If the reports are right, the cars will likely be spoken for through retailers before most people read about them.

What It Is Up Against

Nobody cross-shops a five-car edition on a spreadsheet. Still, it helps to know what the same money, or a lot less of it, buys in a big, fast, tow-capable SUV we list on sale today. The prices below are ones we have checked against each maker's Australian source, and all are before on-road costs.

Porsche Cayenne Electric Turbo850kW / 1,500Nm3,500kg$259,900

Rival power, torque and towing figures are the ones we list. We have left the edition's towing as no data because nothing published about it gives a figure; we list the standard G 63 at 3,500kg braked with a 350kg towball download.

The point of that table is not that the Audi or the Porsche is better value. It is that the G 63's price has very little to do with performance. The RS Q8 performance makes more power for about 60 per cent of the reported edition price, and the electric Cayenne Turbo roughly doubles the G 63's power. What the G-Class sells is the shape, the ladder frame and a badge that holds attention. The Lexus LX600 and the hybrid LandCruiser 300 are big 4WD wagons with 3,500kg braked towing too, and they do most of the practical G-Class job for well under half the money.

Two more cars worth knowing about, with prices we have not re-checked recently: the Land Rover Defender OCTA, which we list at 467kW and 750Nm with 3,500kg braked towing, and Mercedes' own G 450 d, a 270kW, 750Nm six-cylinder diesel G-Class with the same 3,500kg braked rating in our listing. If you want the G-Class shape without the V8's thirst, the G 450 d is the one to price.

The G 63 Two-Finish Edition is not in this comparison because we do not hold a row for it. Prices are each car's listed RRP before on-road costs. Specifications are the figures we list. Figures come from our car database, which is built from Australian manufacturer documents. A blank field reads “No data” rather than a zero or a dash.

Tax, Fuel and Towing

Luxury car tax. As general information for the 2026-27 financial year, the luxury car tax threshold for a car that does not meet the fuel-efficient definition (3.5L/100km or less) is $80,809, and LCT is charged at 33% on value above the threshold. A car at the reported $425,327 is far above it. In Australia a list price before on-road costs normally already includes GST and LCT, so this is not an extra bill, but it does mean a large slice of the sticker is tax. That also cuts the other way: if you plan to keep the car long term, much of what you pay goes to tax rather than into the car. This is general information, not tax advice.

Fuel. We list the standard G 63 at 15.3L/100km combined on 98 RON. Mercedes-Benz Australia's G-Class page currently shows placeholder values where its WLTP fuel figures should be, so check the final figure with a retailer. With a 100-litre tank, that works out to roughly 650km from a full tank on paper, and less in real use. There is no fringe benefits tax angle here: the electric car FBT exemption is for zero-emission cars under the fuel-efficient LCT threshold, and this is neither.

Towing. We list the standard G 63 at 3,500kg braked and 750kg unbraked with a 350kg towball download. If the Two-Finish Edition is mechanically a standard G 63, as the coverage suggests, the same ratings would be expected, but nothing published confirms them for the edition. Nobody buys a five-of-five G 63 to pull a caravan, but if you do plan to hitch something up, run the TowingSorted planner with the standard G 63 first, because a 22-inch wheel and a matte finish are not what you want scraped on a boat ramp.

What Mercedes Has Not Told Us Yet

  • The price and the number of cars, on its own Australian website. Both are reported only.
  • Timing: when the cars arrive, and whether they are already allocated.
  • How they will be sold: by expression of interest, through particular retailers, or first in, first served.
  • The full specification: which G 63 model line it is built on, whether the reported wheels and interior are fixed, and whether AMG Offroad PRO hardware is included.
  • Matte paint care: what the warranty and aftercare terms say about the magno finish. A matte finish needs different care from gloss paint, so ask before you sign.
  • An ANCAP rating: we hold no ANCAP rating for the current G 63 or the edition, so treat it as no data.

Who It Suits, and Who It Does Not

If you collect G-Classes, or want the G 63 that nobody else at the club has, this is written for you, and the only real question is whether a retailer has one left. Ask for the price and specification in writing, ask whether the car is one of the five Australian allocations, and ask what the matte-paint aftercare terms are.

If you simply like the look, the more interesting news is the MANUFAKTUR Two-Finish Package on Mercedes-Benz Australia's MANUFAKTUR page. Ask a retailer whether it can be ordered on the G-Class you want and what it costs. That could give you the same two-tone black on a car specified the way you like, possibly for a good deal less than the edition's reported premium.

And if what you actually want is a luxury 4WD that tows 3,500kg and goes properly off-road, the G 63 has always been the flamboyant way to do it rather than the sensible one. The LX600, the LandCruiser 300 hybrid and the G 450 d are all worth a look in the comparison tool first. We will update this story when Mercedes-Benz Australia publishes the edition's price and allocation.

Disclaimer: The edition name, paint description, MANUFAKTUR Two-Finish Package description and G 63 technical data are taken from Mercedes-Benz Australia's G-Class, Mercedes-AMG G-Class and MANUFAKTUR G-Class pages, read on 1 October 2026 and re-checked on 4 October 2026. The $425,327 price, the five-car allocation and the equipment details marked as reported come from Australian motoring media coverage published on 17 September 2026 and had not been published on Mercedes-Benz Australia's website when we checked. Rival prices are the RRPs before on-road costs listed on CarSorted, checked against each maker's Australian source; rival specifications are the figures we list. The luxury car tax threshold quoted is the 2026-27 figure and changes each 1 July; this is general information, not tax advice. Confirm price, specification and availability with a Mercedes-Benz retailer before committing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Two-Finish Edition?
It is a G 63 finished in two blacks. Mercedes-Benz Australia's G-Class page describes it as featuring a distinctive finish in MANUFAKTUR night black magno and non-metallic black. Mercedes' description of the matching MANUFAKTUR Two-Finish Package puts the non-metallic black on the greenhouse, bonnet and spare wheel cover, and the night black magno on the roof and lower body.
How much is the G 63 Two-Finish Edition in Australia?
Mercedes-Benz Australia has not published a price for it on its website. An Australian motoring outlet has reported it at $425,327 before on-road costs. Treat that as a reported figure and confirm it with a Mercedes-Benz retailer.
How many G 63 Two-Finish Editions are coming to Australia?
Five, according to an Australian media report, each with a passenger grab handle marked 1 of 5. Mercedes-Benz Australia's own pages confirm the edition but do not state a number of cars.
Is the Two-Finish Edition faster than a standard G 63?
Nothing published suggests it is. Mercedes-Benz Australia's G 63 page quotes 430kW from a 3,982cc V8 with a nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT transmission, and reports of the edition quote the same 430kW. The edition is about paint and trim, not performance.
Can I get the two-tone paint on a normal G-Class?
Mercedes-Benz Australia's MANUFAKTUR G-Class page describes a MANUFAKTUR Two-Finish Package with the same black non-metallic and night black magno split. It does not say which G-Class models it can be ordered on here, or what it costs, so ask a retailer to price it on the car you want.
Does the G 63 have an ANCAP rating?
We hold no ANCAP rating for the current G 63 or the Two-Finish Edition, so treat it as no data rather than assuming a star rating.
