Most car questions aren't really about a spec table. They're "will it tow our van", "what will it actually cost us" or "is it safe", asked by someone who doesn't want to open six tabs to find out. So we built something you can just ask. CarSorted CoDriver is live today, on car pages, comparison pages and the homepage.
What it is
CoDriver is CarSorted's AI co-driver. Type a question the way you'd ask a mate who knows cars, and it answers from the same records our car and comparison pages use: figures from the makers' Australian price lists, spec sheets and brochures, safety ratings from ANCAP, fuel and energy use from the Green Vehicle Guide, and recalls from the official register. Each answer links to the cars it's talking about, so you can check the figure on the car's own page, along with the date we last checked it.
Three questions, and the kind of answer you get
"What does the RAV4 GX Hybrid cost, and how much fuel does it use?" The answer comes straight off the Toyota RAV4 GX Hybrid 2WD row: $45,990 before on-road costs, 4.5 L/100km on the combined cycle, and a 705-litre boot. That price was last checked against Toyota on 6 September 2026, and the car's page shows that date.
"Can a Ranger XLT V6 tow a 3,000 kg caravan?" The Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 V6 Double Cab row lists a 3,500 kg braked towing capacity and a 350 kg towball limit, so the answer starts there. Whether the whole rig works with the family and the gear on board is a payload question as much as a towing one, and TowingSorted does those sums.
"What safety rating does the RAV4 Hybrid have?" As I write this, the RAV4 GX Hybrid row holds no ANCAP rating. So the answer says "No data" and stops there. It won't borrow the stars from an earlier RAV4 or another grade, because a rating belongs to the car ANCAP actually rated.
What it won't do
CoDriver doesn't find listings or used cars for sale, check a dealer's stock, judge the condition of a particular car, or give legal, financial or tax advice. It doesn't answer questions that aren't about cars. And it won't pretend it has driven anything. If the question could mean several cars or grades, it asks you to narrow it down instead of guessing which one you meant.
Five free questions a day, and keeping your chats
You get five free questions a day without signing in. When they're used up, sign in (it's free) to keep going, or come back tomorrow. Signing in also keeps your conversations: they land in Recents, where you can pick one up again or delete it. Hit the expand button if you want the chat full screen. Not signed in? The conversation lasts as long as the tab is open.
The small print, in full: CarSorted CoDriver is a beta service. It may give inaccurate or incomplete answers. Verify important details with the manufacturer, the dealer or the official document before you decide. Answers are general information, not advice. The CoDriver help page has the rest, including what happens to your questions.
Also new this week
Fits your life
Save your garage size, your lowest car park, how many child seats you run, your pram, your caravan and your state once. From then on, each car page answers whether that car fits, one line per question, with the figure that decides it: clears your car park by so many centimetres, the pram fits with the seats up, and so on. Where the maker hasn't published the figure, it says "No data". Open any car in the directory to set it up.
Cost per week in your state
On a car that's on sale, the money card now leads with what it costs you each week, not just the sticker. It adds up repayments, fuel or charging, rego and CTP, servicing and tyres, and shows any luxury car tax and whether the car is FBT exempt for a novated lease. Rego and CTP come from each state regulator with the date it prints. For NSW and WA the regulators don't publish a single figure we can stand behind yet, so that line reads "No data" and the total says what it leaves out, rather than filling the gap with an average.
Compare guides
Compare guides are written head-to-heads of the pairs people line up most on CarSorted: who each car suits, the figures that decide it, and a verdict. Each one is built from the price and spec data on the cars' own pages. For any other pair, the compare tool takes 2 to 4 cars side by side.
Owner alerts
Already own the car? On its page, "Own this car? Get recall and warranty alerts" emails you if a safety recall is published for it. Add the month it was bought new and you'll also get a reminder before the factory warranty may end. We don't ask for your VIN, so when a recall email lands, check your VIN on vehiclerecalls.gov.au. Signed in, you manage your cars from your account.
