Key Takeaways
- GWM Australia says the first new Haval H7 shipments are arriving at Australian ports, with first customer deliveries expected within two weeks of 15 October
- GWM has promised the hybrid from under $50,000 driveaway (no state or grade named). No grade has a published price
- GWM's own H7 page lists four grades, Hi4 all-wheel drive on all of them, and says "Contact your Dealer for Pricing". No on-sale date
- The plug-in hybrid is up to 320kW and 670Nm, 0 to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds, with up to 137km of electric range from GWM's internal testing
- Not yet rated by ANCAP. The old H7 has its own rating, which doesn't carry over

A few outlets have run headlines saying the new Haval H7 is already here from under $50,000. Here's what GWM Australia has actually put on record. The first shipments are arriving and the hybrid is promised under $50,000 driveaway, but GWM's own website doesn't yet show a price for any grade or a date you can order from.
What GWM Has Confirmed, and When
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Australian debut | Everything Electric, Sydney, September 2026 |
| Hybrid price promise | "From under $50,000 driveaway" (GWM, 18 September). State and grade not named |
| First shipments | Arriving at ports (GWM update, 15 October, as reported) |
| First customer deliveries | "Within the next two weeks" of 15 October (as reported) |
| Official launch | CarExpert has it as "next month", so November |
| Grade-by-grade prices | Not published |
| On-sale date on gwmanz.com/au | None shown |
The September line was that the H7 would be on sale in mid-October. The 15 October update talks about deliveries starting within two weeks, and CarExpert describes the official launch as next month, with full pricing and specifications still "to be confirmed shortly". Reading those together, the car has landed in port but isn't yet something you can walk into a showroom and price up. We'll update this when GWM publishes its price list.
The Four Grades
GWM Australia lists the Lux HEV, Vanta HEV, Lux PHEV and Vanta PHEV. The page describes a five-seat mid-size SUV with Hi4 intelligent all-wheel drive on both powertrains, a locking rear differential, 4x4 Expert Mode, eight drive modes and a tailgate-mounted full-size spare. A 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera and what GWM calls a full suite of safety tech are listed as standard across the range. GWM quotes 1,500kg braked towing.
Powertrains, as Quoted
| Powertrain | Output | Other figures |
|---|---|---|
| Hybrid (HEV), 1.5L turbo | 182kW / 670Nm | 0-100km/h in 7.0s, 7.0L/100km, 1.53kWh battery |
| Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) | Up to 320kW / 670Nm | 0-100km/h in 4.9s, up to 137km electric |
The PHEV figures are on GWM Australia's page, with the range from GWM's own internal testing. The hybrid figures are not on that page: CarExpert reports them as GWM's quoted numbers, and WhichCar and 4X4 Australia report the PHEV's 844km combined range (WLTC) and 6kW vehicle-to-load socket. GWM prints no separate figures for Lux versus Vanta.
What It Costs Today, and What It Sits Against
There is no H7 price list, so the only H7 number is GWM's hybrid promise. Beside it, here's what the rivals and the H7's showroom neighbours cost right now, with each basis shown because they aren't the same kind of price.
Hybrids first.
| Hybrid | Price | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| New Haval H7 hybrid, entry grade | Under $50,000 | Driveaway, per GWM. State not stated |
| New Haval H7, other grades | Not published | n/a |
| Outgoing H7 Vanta HEV (front-wheel drive) | $46,990 | Driveaway, as reported by CarExpert |
| Haval H6 Lux HEV | $40,990 | Driveaway, private buyers in VIC, GWM offer to 31 Oct |
| Haval H6 Ultra HEV AWD | $47,490 | Driveaway, private buyers in VIC, GWM offer to 31 Oct |
| Toyota RAV4 GXL Hybrid AWD | $52,340 | RRP plus on-road costs, Toyota Australia |
Current price on CarSorted: GWM Haval H6 Lux Hybrid $40,990 drive-away (VIC), as at 1 Oct 2026; Toyota RAV4 GXL Hybrid AWD $52,340 RRP, as at 6 Sep 2026.
Plug-in hybrids next.
| Plug-in hybrid | Price | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| New Haval H7 Lux PHEV and Vanta PHEV | Not announced | n/a |
| Haval H6 Ultra PHEV AWD | $50,990 | Driveaway, private buyers in VIC, GWM offer to 31 Oct |
| Tank 300 Lux Hi4-T PHEV | $57,990 | Driveaway, private buyers in VIC, GWM offer |
| Toyota RAV4 XSE PHEV AWD | $63,340 | RRP plus on-road costs, Toyota Australia |
Current price on CarSorted: GWM Haval H6 Ultra PHEV AWD $50,990 drive-away (VIC), as at 22 Jul 2026; GWM Tank 300 Lux Hi4-T PHEV $57,990 drive-away (VIC), as at 19 Sep 2026; Toyota RAV4 XSE PHEV AWD $63,340 RRP, as at 6 Sep 2026.
As at 24 October 2026. A driveaway price and an RRP aren't comparable, so don't read the RAV4 rows as a straight gap. GWM's H6 and Tank 300 prices are campaign-qualified offers with their own deadlines. We list no price for the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the other obvious plug-in rival, so it isn't in the table.
The new H7 grades are listed as coming soon, with no price until GWM publishes one.
Where It Fits
GWM's own page puts the H7 alongside the H6, describing it as the more rugged-looking, boxy, off-road-inspired option with the same family practicality. On GWM's numbers the braked towing rating is 1,500kg, the same figure we list for the AWD hybrid RAV4 and well short of a Prado, which we list at 3,500kg. The H7's locking rear diff and full-size spare are the off-road-leaning bits on GWM's page.
CarExpert reports GWM has said the H7 launches in a short-wheelbase, five-seat form, with an extended seven-seat version due in 2027.
Safety
Not yet rated by ANCAP. ANCAP does list a rating for the outgoing H7, which went on sale in August 2025, but we haven't found a separate listing for the all-new generation, and a rating doesn't carry across to a redesigned car. GWM says a full suite of safety tech is standard, including lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring and the 360-degree camera. We won't show a star rating for the new H7 until ANCAP publishes one.
What This Means for Buyers
If the H7 is on your shortlist, the real number you're waiting for is the grade-by-grade price list, and the plug-in prices in particular. "From under $50,000" tells you the entry hybrid; it says nothing about the Vanta hybrid or either PHEV. Ask a GWM dealer for a written driveaway quote for your postcode before you assume anything.
If you can't wait, the outgoing H7 Vanta is still sold, but it is front-wheel drive and a different car. For more on how we got here, see our earlier H7 launch piece and the wider GWM range.
Disclaimer: Grades, the PHEV figures, towing, warranty and the "Contact your Dealer for Pricing" wording are from GWM Australia's Haval H7 page, checked on 24 October 2026. The under-$50,000 driveaway promise is from GWM Australia's Everything Electric video of 18 September 2026. The shipment, delivery and expressions-of-interest details are GWM Australia statements as reported by CarExpert, CarSauce, 4X4 Australia, WhichCar and GoAuto on or around 15 October 2026; the November launch timing, the hybrid figures and the roughly $54,000 expectation are CarExpert's reporting, and the 844km range and 6kW socket are from 4X4 Australia and WhichCar. GWM publishes no price for any grade, so none is estimated here. Competitor prices are from our directory rows or GWM's offers page as at 24 October 2026 and carry their stated basis. We have not driven the H7. Confirm price, specification, safety rating and availability with GWM Australia and your dealer.
