If you need seven seats, a diesel and proper low-range 4WD, and the budget tops out at $40,000 on the road, Mahindra has just put the Scorpio Z8+ inside it. There's one big thing to weigh before you sign, and we'll get to it.

Mahindra Australia is advertising the Z8+ at $39,990 drive-away, an instant $4,000 off its normal $43,990 drive-away price. The better-equipped Z8L+ gets $3,000 off, down to $45,990 from $48,990. Both offers end on 31 December 2026 and apply only to 2025-built stock.

Scorpio Z8L+$48,990$3,000$45,990

Current price on CarSorted: Mahindra Scorpio N Z8+ 2.2L Diesel 4x4 7-seat AT $43,990 drive-away (VIC), as at 15 Oct 2026; LDV D90 Executive Diesel 4WD $54,200 drive-away (VIC), as at 8 Oct 2026.

Mahindra prints drive-away prices only for the Scorpio, so there's no list price before on-roads to compare. The 2025-built condition matters: Mahindra's page now headlines the "New MY26 Scorpio with ADAS", so check the build date on the car you're offered.

What You Get

Both grades run Mahindra's mHawk 2.2-litre turbo-diesel, with 128.6kW at 3,500rpm and 400Nm from 1,500 to 3,000rpm, through a six-speed Aisin automatic. Mahindra lists 4XPLOR terrain modes, low range and diff locks, and seven seats.

The Z8+ has an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and an auto-dimming mirror. The Z8L+ adds ventilated front seats, a seven-inch colour driver display, a 12-speaker Sony stereo with subwoofer, a six-way electric driver's seat and wireless phone charging. Mahindra's page lists a Level 2 driver assistance suite: adaptive cruise with stop and go, AEB for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians, forward collision warning, high beam assist, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, a lane-centring Smart Pilot Assist and traffic sign recognition.

Safety: The Zero-Star Rating

This is the thing to weigh. ANCAP lists the Scorpio at zero stars, rating year 2023, covering all variants on sale from April 2023, and the rating runs until December 2031. A zero-star rating doesn't mean the car has no safety equipment; it means the car did not meet ANCAP's requirements for a one-star rating when it was assessed. Some fleet and company car policies require a minimum ANCAP rating, so check yours before you buy one for work.

Mahindra's page now lists the driver assistance suite above, but the rating ANCAP lists for the Scorpio is still the 2023 one, so that is the result that applies.

How It Compares

The seven-seat diesel 4x4s nearest on price in our directory are the LDV D90 Executive Diesel 4WD at $54,200 drive-away on LDV's price guide, and the Isuzu MU-X LS-M 2.2L 4x4 at $55,900 before on-road costs. At $39,990 drive-away, the Scorpio Z8+ is more than $14,000 under the D90 diesel on the same drive-away basis. The MU-X figure doesn't include on-roads, so the real gap to it is wider again.

That's the trade in plain terms: a seven-seat diesel 4x4 for $14,000 less than the D90 diesel, against a zero-star ANCAP rating. Our Scorpio vs MU-X comparison puts the specs side by side, and the D90 diesel story covers LDV's own October offer.

Warranty

Mahindra's page lists a seven-year warranty, seven years of roadside assist and capped-price servicing.

What This Means for Buyers

If the budget is fixed at $40,000 drive-away and the job is towing, camping and seven seats, the Z8+ is now inside that number. Get the drive-away price in writing for the specific car, confirm it's 2025-built stock, and read ANCAP's technical report before you decide whether the price gap is worth it to you.

The full Scorpio details are on the Z8+ and Z8L+ pages, and the rest of the range is on our Mahindra page.
