Toyota LandCruiser 300 and Prado Get a Factory Second Immobiliser in August: What Aussie Owners Actually Need to Know
Toyota Australia has confirmed a second, standalone factory immobiliser as a Toyota Genuine Accessory on the LandCruiser 300 Series and LandCruiser Prado 250 Series from August 2026, orderable on new cars and, more importantly, retrofittable to any of those vehicles already on the road. The accessory sits on a separate control channel from the original immobiliser, so an OBD port attack or a key-cloning device that beats the first has to defeat a second, independent lock before the car will start. VP of sales and marketing John Pappas confirmed the launch but not the price, with detail promised closer to August. The HiLux misses out at launch, with Toyota Australia still working through timing for its best-selling ute. The rollout follows physical steering locks added as a Genuine Accessory in January 2026 and Japan-market changes in March, and lands as Victoria Police reports key-cloning technology is now used in roughly one in three vehicle thefts in the state, with LandCruiser, HiLux, RAV4 and Corolla the most frequently targeted models. For existing owners the retrofit is the standout: unlike Ford, Nissan or GWM security firmware refreshes tied to model-year production, Toyota is opening the accessory to any 300 or Prado already on the road, which resets both insurance premiums and used-car resale story on cars back to 2021.

Toyota Australia locks in local pricing on the first-ever petrol-electric LandCruiser 300 Series. GR Sport Performance Hybrid $156,060 before on-roads, Sahara ZX Performance Hybrid $156,810, both $8,900 above their 3.3-litre V6 diesel equivalents. i-FORCE MAX pairs a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol with a single electric motor between the engine and 10-speed automatic and a 1.8kWh nickel-metal-hydride battery under the rear cargo area. Combined system output is 341kW/790Nm, up 114kW and 90Nm on the 3.3L diesel V6, making the hybrid the most powerful LandCruiser Toyota has ever sold in Australia. Braked tow rating retained at 3,500kg, five-seat only, GR Sport keeps three individual diff locks (front, centre, rear). Steering swaps to electric assist. On sale mid-2026, first customer deliveries in July and August through metropolitan Toyota dealers. Five-year unlimited-km vehicle warranty, 10-year traction-battery warranty when serviced in the Toyota network, $450 capped-price servicing to 100,000km. ANCAP five-star from the 2022 300 Series result carries across.
Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series Auto Orders Reopen With AdBlue: Manual GXL Buyers Still Left Waiting
Toyota Australia reopens the LandCruiser 70 Series order book for automatic 76 Series Wagon, 78 Series Troop Carrier and 79 Series Cab-Chassis grades, with production of the updated MY26 cars restarting in August 2026. The whole range now runs a 20-litre AdBlue tank feeding a new selective catalytic reduction stack so the 2.8L four-cylinder turbo-diesel can clear Euro 6 Stage C emissions rules for heavy-duty vehicles over 3.5 tonnes GVM. Engine outputs are unchanged at 150kW/500Nm and the six-speed automatic carries over, but the 78 Series Troop Carrier fuel tank drops from 180L to 130L to match the rest of the range. Five-speed manual variants of the 76 GXL Wagon, 78 Troop Carrier and 79 Double Cab-Chassis are still paused, with no return date given. Toyota Australia's MLP runs from $75,600 for the 76 Workmate Wagon to $87,600 for the 79 GXL Double Cab-Chassis with front and rear diff locks. Braked tow rating holds at 3,500kg and the 70 Series does not currently carry an ANCAP rating. Five-year unlimited-km warranty with a seven-year powertrain extension for cars kept on Toyota Genuine service.
