BYD Rolls Out Free On-Roads and Cash Credits Across Seven Models in Australia: Order by 30 September, Deliver by 31 October

BYD Australia is chasing Toyota's number-one spot hard this year, and August is when the discount cannon comes out. Seven variants across four model lines carry a real, dated deal for the next six weeks, and the shape of the offer tells you exactly which cars BYD wants shifted before its new-model wave arrives in Q4. If you were already sitting on a BYD quote, the maths just changed. If you were cross-shopping the Toyota RAV4, the Ford Ranger or a similarly priced Tesla, this is where BYD lands its punch.

The offers, in one table

The free on-roads offers work by BYD Australia holding the list price steady and covering the statutory on-road costs (stamp duty, registration and CTP). The actual dollar value moves around by state, because stamp duty on a $57,900 ute in New South Wales is not the same as in the Northern Territory. As a rough guide, expect around $4,000 to $4,600 off the driveaway you would otherwise pay in a metro postcode. The straight cashback offers land as cheque or bank transfer at delivery. Your Way credit is more flexible: cash, accessories, home charger, servicing pack or roof rack, however you want to spend it, with the mix set by your dealer.

Sealion 7 Premium at $54,990 driveaway

The Sealion 7 Premium is the offer with the sharpest positioning. At $54,990 driveaway it lands inside a handful of hundred dollars of a Tesla Model Y RWD driveaway in most states, and gives you a bigger, more powerful car (390kW dual-motor AWD versus 220kW rear-drive) with a longer standard equipment list, at the cost of about 60km of WLTP range. It is BYD's clearest run at getting a Tesla shopper to walk out of a BYD showroom. The Premium is the AWD Performance grade with the 82.5kWh Blade LFP battery, 456km of WLTP range, a claimed 4.5-second 0 to 100km/h and a 150kW DC charging peak.

Shark 6 Premium at $57,900 driveaway

The Shark 6 has been under sustained fire from cheaper PHEV utes (the JAC Hunter PHEV at $49,988 is the sharpest of them) and Ford has cut the price of the Ranger Hybrid XL. Free on-roads is BYD's answer. It is worth about $4,600 in Victoria and NSW, which puts the Shark 6 Premium in front of the Ranger Sport 4x4 diesel driveaway in most metro postcodes. Powertrain is unchanged: 321kW combined, 650Nm, a 29.6kWh Blade LFP battery good for around 100km of WLTP electric range, a 2,500kg braked tow rating and V2L standard. The five-star ANCAP rating from the 2023 to 2025 protocol carries across.

Sealion 8 Dynamic FWD at $56,990 driveaway

The seven-seat Sealion 8 is the newest and least established of the four model lines in this campaign, and giving away the on-roads is BYD's way of getting the entry Dynamic FWD grade off the showroom floor faster. At $56,990 driveaway it is meaningfully cheaper than the equivalent Kia Sorento Hybrid GT-Line or the top Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Exceed Tourer. Dynamic FWD gets a single-motor 205kW plug-in hybrid setup, a 35.6kWh Blade LFP battery good for around 103km of WLTP electric range, a claimed 1,050km combined range, a 1,500kg braked tow rating and a seven-seat cabin with a 405L boot behind the third row. Standard equipment includes a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, 10.25-inch driver display, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, V2L and a fixed panoramic glass roof.

Sealion 8 AWD grades: $2,000 cashback

Move up to the dual-motor Sealion 8 Dynamic AWD ($63,990 before on-roads) or Premium AWD (published price $70,990 to $71,990 depending on the state of the current price sheet) and the offer changes shape to a straight $2,000 cashback. That is a smaller relative saving on a bigger sticker, but it is still worth having as long as you were already committed to the AWD grade for the towing (2,000kg on Dynamic AWD, unchanged for Premium AWD), the extra 154kW of combined power or the longer running kit list. The 150km EV range claim on the Premium AWD stays untouched by the campaign.

Shark 6 Dynamic Cab Chassis and Atto 2 Premium: Your Way credit

The two lower-volume variants get flexible credit. The Shark 6 Dynamic Cab Chassis at $55,900 before on-roads gets $3,000 of Your Way credit, spendable on cashback, accessories, car care, merchandise or home charging. The Atto 2 Premium small electric SUV at $35,990 before on-roads gets $2,000 of the same credit. For fleet buyers, the tray-back Shark 6 Dynamic Cab Chassis credit is the more interesting one, because $3,000 of tie-downs and canopy work is real money on a lifetime work vehicle. For an Atto 2 Premium buyer, most people will convert the Your Way credit to a home charger installation, which turns a nominal $2,000 discount into $3,000 to $4,000 of avoided out-of-pocket cost.

What is not in this campaign

Three notable exclusions. The Sealion 6 (Essential, Dynamic and Premium plus the newer Extended Range variants) is out of this promotion despite carrying its own July cashback last month. The Sealion 5 Premium at $33,990 before on-roads, currently Australia's cheapest new PHEV, is not part of the free-on-roads pool. And the electric Atto 3 range, including the incoming Atto 3 EVO, is untouched. Demo cars are excluded from every offer, and BYD is explicit that these deals do not stack with any other current dealer discount or promotion.

Warranty and running cost

Every car in the campaign keeps BYD's standard cover: 6-year, 150,000km vehicle warranty and an 8-year, 160,000km high-voltage battery warranty. Roadside assist is included for the length of the vehicle warranty. Servicing is capped-price on a 12-month or 20,000km cycle for the pure EVs and 12-month or 15,000km for the PHEVs, so this is not a promotion that quietly weakens the aftersales story. The cheque or credit lands at delivery, and none of the variants require a repair, retrofit or dealer-loaner arrangement to qualify.

Moving that to $54,990 driveaway resets its cross-shop position: it now sits about $4,000 under the Geely EX5 Complete AWD equivalent driveaway in Victoria, and lines up almost exactly on a Tesla Model Y RWD driveaway with meaningfully more power. The Shark 6 Premium at $57,900 driveaway lands under a Ford Ranger Sport 4x4 diesel driveaway in most states, a comparison the Ranger Sport buyer has not had to have before. And the Sealion 8 Dynamic FWD at $56,990 driveaway is now cheaper than an Outlander PHEV Aspire driveaway with two more seats and about 40km more EV range. What this means for buyers

If you were on the fence about a Sealion 7 Premium or a Shark 6 Premium, this is the six weeks to actually sign. On both cars the free-on-roads offer is worth about a month or two of normal depreciation, in cash, up front. That is a rare kind of deal in the Australian market: the sticker does not move, so the resale story stays clean, but your driveaway falls by four grand plus. The trap to watch is delivery. October 31 is the hard cut-off. If your preferred colour or grade is on a boat and lands 2 November, the offer walks. Ask the dealer to confirm stock in writing before you pay a deposit.

If you were looking at a Sealion 8 AWD or an Atto 2 Premium, the campaign is worth taking, but do the maths against the alternative deals live in the market. The Atto 2 Premium $2,000 Your Way credit lines up with an MG4 51 or Geely EX2 driveaway offer once you factor the credit as a home charger. And if seven seats is the actual brief, cross-shop the Jaecoo J8 SHS Summit seven-seat PHEV and a Kia Sorento PHEV before you commit to the Sealion 8, because the Sealion 8's Q4 running is going to be very competitive.
