BMW's coupe-roofed take on the new electric iX3 now has a full Australian page. The iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive both get two motors and all-wheel drive, and the bigger one has a 108.7kWh battery and 400kW DC charging. What BMW Australia hasn't put on its site is a price, for either the car or any of its options. That matters more than usual here, and it's the reason this story is short on dollars.
The Two Grades
| Electric, dual motor AWD | iX4 40 xDrive | iX4 50 xDrive |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Not published by BMW Australia | Not published by BMW Australia |
| Power / torque | 275kW / 520Nm | 345kW / 645Nm |
| 0 to 100km/h | 5.6 seconds | 4.9 seconds |
| Top speed | 200km/h | 210km/h |
| Battery | 82.6kWh | 108.7kWh |
| Max DC charging | 300kW | 400kW |
| DC 10 to 80 per cent | 21 minutes | 21 minutes |
| Range | No Australian figure yet | No Australian figure yet |
Both share the same body: 4,782mm long, 1,895mm wide and 1,595mm tall on a 2,897mm wheelbase, with a 490 to 1,600-litre boot and a 58-litre front storage bin. BMW's technical page carries the line "Overseas model shown. Local specification may vary", and its range and consumption figures are labelled as measured under a European regulation. We'd rather wait for an Australian range figure than print one that may not describe the car you can buy, so that row stays blank for now.
What's Standard, What's an Option
BMW Australia says the M Sport package is fitted as standard, with larger alloy wheels, blue M Sport brakes and sportier exterior details. Several things on the page carry BMW's "Equipment optionally available" footnote, including the Harman Kardon sound system, Parking Assistant Professional, the Adaptive M suspension and the AC Charging Professional hardware that vehicle-to-load needs. BMW says the vehicle-to-load adapters and its Wallbox Professional are expected from the fourth quarter of 2027, and that BMW Individual paints and wheels, where available, are orderable from May 2027.

Our Take: The Honest Total Isn't Possible Yet
With a car like this, the sticker is where the conversation starts, not where it ends. BMW's own page lists options plenty of buyers will look at, and right now it prints a price for none of them. So if you see an "as-optioned" iX4 figure this week, somebody else has done that sum, and we can't check it against BMW. Our rule is simple: an options total is only ever the sum of prices the maker actually prints, and if a pack is involved it's a floor, not a total. We'll build that table for both grades the day BMW Australia publishes its price and option list.
Two timing details are worth knowing now. If you want a BMW Individual paint, BMW says those are orderable from May 2027. And if vehicle-to-load is part of the appeal, the optional hardware and BMW's adapters are listed for late 2027. The closest relative we can price is the iX3 50 xDrive, which has the same 345kW and 645Nm and sits at $109,900 before on-road costs in our directory. We're not going to guess the iX4's premium over it.
As for the petrol X4, the X4 rows in our directory, back to the 2015 F26, are all marked discontinued, and nothing on BMW Australia's iX4 page points to a petrol replacement. If you liked the shape, the iX4 is the version BMW is selling the story on.

ANCAP: no data. ANCAP has not published a rating for the iX4. Its iX3 sibling has its own result, covered in our iX3 ANCAP story, but ratings are model-specific and we won't carry one across.

Disclaimer: Specifications are from BMW Australia's iX4 model and technical-data pages as read on 8 October 2026, which state that an overseas model is shown and that local specification may vary. BMW Australia had not published iX4 pricing or option prices on its website on that date, so none is printed here, and no range figure is printed until an Australian one is available. The iX3 50 xDrive price is the value held in our directory on 8 October 2026.
