The quickest Model Y you can order in Australia is now cheaper to get into. Tesla's Australian site lists the Model Y Performance All-Wheel Drive at $84,900 before on-road costs. Our record of the price before the change was $89,400, last checked in June, so that is $4,500 less on the sticker.
Tesla has not called it a price cut on its Australian site, and it does not print the old figure, so we are reporting the new number rather than a framing of it. CarExpert reported that the change comes as the Performance moves from German to Chinese sourcing for what it described as the MY27 update. Tesla's site does not say where the car is built, so treat the sourcing part as reported for now.
Model Y pricing, every variant
All electric, all list prices before on-road costs, read off Tesla's Australian order page and its compare table on 3 October 2026.
| Electric (Tesla's grade name) | Our previous record | Now | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive | $58,900 | $58,900 | RRP excl. on-roads |
| Model Y Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive | $68,900 | $68,900 | RRP excl. on-roads |
| Model Y L Premium All-Wheel Drive (six seats) | $74,900 at launch | $74,900 | RRP excl. on-roads |
| Model Y Performance All-Wheel Drive | $89,400 | $84,900 | RRP excl. on-roads |
The Performance is the only price that moved. Our Model Y RWD and Model Y Long Range AWD pages carry the old, shorter names, so the prices will look familiar there even though Tesla now badges both as Premium. The six-seat Model Y L holds the $74,900 it launched at, and on Tesla's compare table it has the longest range of the four at 681km WLTP.
The smaller changes
The one you can actually measure is the Premium Long Range AWD. Tesla's compare table now quotes 4.3 seconds from 0 to 100km/h, and the figure we held for it was 4.8. The Performance stays at 3.5 seconds and the Premium RWD at 5.9 on Tesla's numbers, both the same as our records. Range on the Performance is 580km WLTP, and Tesla says a 15-minute Supercharger stop adds up to 243km.
Tesla's compare table also lists every grade as vehicle-to-load capable at 230V 15A, with the Tesla Outlet Adapter sold separately, so budget for the adapter if you want to run a fridge or power tools off the battery. CarExpert also reported new paint colours. Tesla's configurator currently offers six: Pearl White Multi-Coat as the no-cost colour, plus Diamond Black, Glacier Blue, Stealth Grey, Quicksilver and Ultra Red. It does not flag which of those are new, so we have not either.
Timing differs too. The two Premium grades and the Model Y L show an estimated delivery of October to November 2026, while the Performance shows November to December.
Against two other fast electric SUVs
At $84,900 the Model Y Performance still costs more than the BYD Sealion 7 Performance at $63,990 and the Zeekr 7X Performance AWD at $72,900, both list prices on our pages. The Tesla answers with the quickest 0-100 time of the three on the figures we hold, 3.5 seconds against 4.5 and 3.8, and the longest WLTP range at 580km against 456km and 543km.

Prices are the list prices on our car pages; the Tesla figure matches Tesla's Australian site as re-read on 4 October 2026. All exclude on-road costs. Fuel use reads N/A because all three are battery electric. Figures come from our car database, which is built from Australian manufacturer documents. A blank field reads “No data” rather than a zero or a dash.
Tax and salary packaging
For 2026-27 the fuel-efficient luxury car tax threshold is $91,661, applying from 1 July 2026, and at $84,900 the Model Y Performance sits under it at list price. It was under at $89,400 too, so the change widens the gap rather than moving the car across the line. Options count towards the value that is tested.
The other line to watch is the fringe benefits tax one. From 1 April 2027 the full FBT exemption for eligible electric cars is announced to be limited to cars at or under $75,000, and the Performance is still over that at its new price. On list price, the Model Y L and both Premium grades are under it. Run your own numbers in the novated lease calculator. Current as at 3 October 2026, and general information rather than tax advice.
Prices: every Tesla figure here was read from Tesla's Australian site on 3 October 2026, with the four list prices re-checked unchanged on 4 October, and is a list price before on-road costs, which vary by state and territory. The previous $89,400 Performance price is our own record from 24 June 2026, not a figure Tesla currently prints. The German to Chinese sourcing change is as reported by CarExpert and is not stated on Tesla's site.
